San Bernardino, CA - Dustin May fired six scoreless innings and Cody Thomas and Gavin Lux both went deep, as Rancho Cucamonga pulled to within three games of first-place Inland Empire with an 8-1 victory over the 66ers at San Manuel Stadium.

May, who retired the first 12 hitters he faced, earned his first career win in the California League, allowing just two hits, while striking out five batters without surrendering a walk.

Thomas broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning, as he blasted a solo homer to center field off 66ers' starter Jason Alexander (2-3).

In the seventh, Rancho busted it open, as Thomas delivered an RBI single with the bases loaded to make it 2-0. Lux followed two batters later with a grand slam, his third long-ball of the year to open it up at 6-0.

The 66ers got their lone run off reliever Stetson Allie in the seventh.

Rancho added two in the ninth, as Saige Jenco picked up an RBI single, then scored on a Rylan Bannon triple, capping the scoring at 8-1.

The Quakes (21-27) are just three games back with 22 to play in the first half. Rancho will send Tony Gonsolin (2-1) to the mound on Saturday at 6:05pm, while Inland Empire will counter with Sean Isaac (1-0).

On Monday, the Quakes open a seven-game home stand with a special 2:05pm Memorial Day game at LoanMart Field against the Lake Elsinore Storm. Monday is a pet-friendly day, as four-legged friends are welcome at the ballpark, thanks to Blue Buffalo. Tickets are available by calling (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
