Lancaster JetHawks News Release
LANCASTER, Calif. - The JetHawks came out on top in a back-and-forth affair Saturday night, beating the Stockton Ports, 5-4, at The Hangar. Lancaster scored twice in the sixth inning to take the lead, and the bullpen finished things off.
Lancaster (24-25) hit three home runs in the win, all solo shots. Willie Abreu went deep in bottom of the second to get the JetHawks on the board, and Tyler Nevin followed with an opposite field blast in the third.
The third home run came in the sixth inning, with Max George tying the game after Stockton had taken the lead in the top of the inning. The JetHawks took the lead for good later in the frame on a Carlos Herrera double that brought home Forrest Wall.
Stockton's Brian Howard (4-3) allowed five runs and 10 hits in defeat, both career-highs. He entered the contest with the fourth-best ERA in the California League.
Brandon Gold (4-3) worked into the seventh in a winning effort for Lancaster. He gave up four runs on eight hits, but left with the JetHawks in front.
The bullpen was sensational behind Gold. Justin Lawrence and Reid Humphreys combined to throw 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to seal the win. Humphreys struck out a pair in the ninth to pick up his 12th save of the season.
Stockton (29-20) scored twice in the fourth inning and twice more in the sixth to go in front. Their 4-3 lead was short-lived, as the JetHawks answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning.
Lancaster goes for the series win in the finale Sunday. Rico Garcia (5-4) will face off against Stockton lefty Zack Erwin (3-3). First pitch from The Hangar is set for 2:05 pm.
