
Whitecaps to welcome trio of '84 Tigers

Former Detroit Tigers pitchers Willie Hernandez, Dan Petry and Milt Wilcox will be on hand at Fifth Third Ballpark on Friday, August 28 during West Michigan's 7:00 p.m. home game against the Fort Wayne TinCaps.
As part of the final installment of Wendy's Tiger Fridays, the Whitecaps will honor the 25th anniversary of Detroit's last World Series championship. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Tigers 1984 World Series championship hat. Hernandez, Petry and Wilcox will be available to sign autographs from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Gates open at 5:45 p.m.
Hernandez, a three-time All-Star, played 13 Major League seasons with the Cubs, Phillies and Tigers. In 1984, Hernandez went 9-3 with 32 saves and a 1.92 ERA on his way to garnering American League MVP and Cy Young Award honors.
Petry pitched 13 seasons in the big leagues with the Tigers, Angels, Braves and Red Sox. In 1984, Petry went 18-8 with a 3.24 ERA and helped Detroit take home the World Series crown. He was also named to the 1985 American League All-Star team.
Wilcox spent 16 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Reds, Indians, Cubs, Tigers and Mariners. His most notable season came during the Tigers'1984 championship campaign when he went 17-8 with 119 strikeouts.
Four other former Tigers have visited the ballpark this season as part of Wendy's Tiger Fridays. Rick Leach, Dave Bergman, John Wockenfuss and Matt Nokes have each visited Fifth Third Ballpark this summer.
The Whitecaps' next homestand runs from Friday, August 28 through Monday, August 31.
