Fort Wayne TinCaps News Release

Midland, MI - RHP Simon Castro, fresh off a no-hitter, allowed a base hit to Dee Gordon on the first pitch he delivered Monday against the Great Lakes Loons. Castro rebounded to deliver five scoreless innings in the Fort Wayne TinCaps' 5-1 victory over Great Lakes. Blake Tekotte went 3- for-4 and scored twice.

The TinCaps jumped ahead in the top of the 1st inning against RHP Ethan Martin, the #3 prospect in the Dodgers' organization. Tekotte doubled to the gap in left-center to start the game and moved to third on a groundout. Daniel Robertson followed with a dribbler back to the mound, which Martin fielded and threw over the first baseman's head for an error. Tekotte scored and Robertson raced all the way to third. Two batters later, Cole Figueroa lifted a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Fort Wayne tacked on a run in the top of the 6th inning when Yefri Carvajal bounced an RBI single up the middle to push the lead to 3-0.

In the 7th , Tekotte singled and Kevin Hansen doubled to put runners at second and third with nobody out. A wild pitch allowed Tekotte to score, then Robertson hit a chopper over a drawn-in shortstop for an RBI single to make it 5-0.

The Loons finally scored in the 8th when Jerry Sands clubbed a solo home run for the Loons' only run of the game.

Castro worked in and out of trouble in the early stages of the game as Great Lakes put runners into scoring position with nobody out in each of the first three innings. But Castro got out of each jam and settled in to retire nine consecutive Loons in the 3rd , 4th and 5th innings.

In the 6th , Castro allowed two baserunners, but LHP Rob Musgrave came in from the bullpen and got out of the inning unscathed. Musgrave allowed a run in three innings with six strikeouts.

Castro (9-6) notched the win as Martin (5-8) was saddled with the loss.

The TinCaps upped their record to 86-41 for the season, 41-16 in the second half. Great Lakes dropped to 72-55 on the year, 32-25 for the half.

Fort Wayne and the Loons (Class-A Los Angeles Dodgers) continue the four-game series Tuesday at Dow Diamond at 7:05pm. Fort Wayne RHP Dexter Carter (1-2) is the starting pitcher opposite Great Lakes RHP Josh Walter (9-4).
