Whitecaps' Kibler KO's Lansing

Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - Former Michigan State Spartan Jon Kibler tossed a complete-game in his first visit back to Oldsmobile Park since college, leading the West Michigan Whitecaps to a 4-2 win over the Lansing Lugnuts Sunday afternoon.

The Lugnuts held a 1-0 lead until the fourth inning when the Whitecaps scored all four of their runs. Justin Henry started the rally with a single off of Lansing starter Marc Rzepczynski who then walked two straight batters to load the bases.

After Henry raced home on a wild pitch, Jordan Newton laced a triple past a diving Darin Mastroianni in center field. The hit scored Chris Carlson and Casper Wells to give the Whitecaps a 3-1 lead. Audy Ciriaco's infield single plated Newton to push the lead to 4-1.

The run support was plenty for Kibler, who's only misstep came in the fourth when Manny Rodriguez homered to right-center field to cut the lead to 4-2.

Kibler (3-2) allowed just two hits in the game and only one of the runs against him was earned. He also retired the final 13 batters of the contest and fanned eight in the game.

Rzepczynski (0-1) took the loss for the Lugnuts after giving up all four runs in four innings of work.

Lansing (21-21) will now hit the road for four games to take on the Dayton Dragons at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, Ohio. Lefty Chi-Hung Cheng (2-0, 7.91) will take the mound for the Lugnuts. He will be opposed by the Dragons' Matt Klinker (2-2, 4.11). First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
