Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
GRAND CHUTE, WI - Kane County pitchers Scott Mitchinson and Chad Kerfoot combined on a four-hit shutout as the Cougars beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 4-0 Sunday afternoon on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium. The loss snapped Wisconsin's five-game winning streak. Larry Cobb had three hits and scored twice to lead the Cougars. Three of Kane County's four runs scored on wild pitches.
The Cougars (26-14) got the lead with a run in the first inning. Cobb scored from third on a two-out wild pitch by Aumont.
Cobb continued to torment Rattler pitching as he doubled and took third on an error with one out in the third inning. He scored later in the inning on another wild pitch by Aumont for a 2-0 Kane County advantage. In the three game series against the Rattlers, Cobb went 8-for-13 and scored four runs.
Aumont, in his first start on Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium, allowed two runs on three hits over 4-2/3 innings with two walks and three strikeouts. He left after reaching his pitch limit with two outs in the fifth.
The Cougars added a run in the top of the sixth with a two-out rally. Jonathan Johnston drew a walk off Rattler reliever Keith Meyer. Then, Carlos Arrieche doubled to left to knock in Johnston for a 3-0 lead.
Wisconsin (18-19) struggled to get anything going against Mitchinson. No Rattler lead-off batter reached in his seven innings. Mitchinson did not walk a batter and struck out nine.
Kane County scored one more run on a wild pitch in the top of the ninth inning for their final tally.
Kerfoot retired all six batters he faced for his first save of the season.
Despite the loss on Sunday, Wisconsin still had one of their most successful stretches of home games in recent history. The Rattlers went 9-3 in the 12-game homestand.
The Rattlers begin a 12-game, 13-day road trip on Monday. The trip kicks off with a four game series at Cedar Rapids. Michael Pineda (3-0, 0.63) is the scheduled starting pitcher for the Timber Rattlers. The Kernels will counter with Michael Anton (5-2, 2.01). Game time is 6:30pm.
