FORT WAYNE, Ind. - The TinCaps never led in an 8-3 loss to the West Michigan Whitecaps, Saturday at Parkview Field. Everett Williams went 3-for-4.

West Michigan took the early lead as Jamie Johnson walked to lead off the game and later scored on a fielder's choice grounder off the bat of Avisail Garcia. Solo home runs by Alexis Espinoza in the second and Wade Gaynor in the third made it 3-0.

Fort Wayne rallied in the bottom of the third. Jonathan Galvez was credited with a double on a ball that was lost in the evening sky, then Williams singled and Danny Payne roped an RBI single to left. Two batters later, Jason Hagerty drew a walk, then Jedd Gyorko smacked a two-run single to center to tie the game.

The Whitecaps rebounded with three of their own in the next half-inning. Espinoza hit a two-run triple to right-center and scored two batters later on Johnson's sacrifice fly, putting West Michigan ahead 6-3. Single runs in the seventh and eighth extended the lead to 8-3.

Fort Wayne LHP Jose De Paula (8-5) took the loss, yielding six runs in five innings. West Michigan RHP Trevor Feeney (12-13) was the winning pitcher.

Fort Wayne fell to 40-28 in the half, 76-62 for the season. The Whitecaps improved to 35-33 in the second half, 61-76 for the year and cut their magic number to clinch a playoff spot to one.

The TinCaps and Whitecaps (Class-A Detroit Tigers) continue the series Sunday in a 7:05 p.m. start. Fort Wayne RHP Jerry Sullivan (7-4) takes the ball against Whitecaps LHP Jared Wesson (7-2).
