Quad Cities River Bandits News Release

DAVENPORT, Iowa - The River Bandits committed two errors behind starter Eric Fornataro (7-15), and the Peoria Chiefs made them pay. The Chiefs had a 4-0 lead after two innings and none of the runs were earned. Peoria went on to add four more tallies on their way to an 8-2 series opening win.

Fornataro was charged with three earned runs, seven total, over four innings. The deficit was to much for the River Bandits to overcome against Peoria starter Ryan Searle (7-8). Quad Cities rallied in the bottom of the fifth for two runs but had a chance for more before Searle worked out of a bases loaded situation with minimal damage. Ronny Morla and Manolin DeLeon combined to shut the door on the Bandits over the final four innings.

Luis Mateo was the only Bandit with a multi-hit performance going 2-for-4. Matt Cerda did most of the damage at the plate for the Chiefs with a 5-for-5 game. Of his five hits, three were doubles and he scored two runs and drove in three.

Fornataro was charged with the loss while Searle picked up the win. Searle allowed just the two runs, both earned, on two hits over five innings.

The same two teams square off on Sunday night as the series continues. The River Bandits will send left-hander Daniel Bibona to the mound against Peoria righty Frank Batista. Sunday's game is a U.S. Bank Family Sunday which means kids can run the bases after the game thanks to Monkey Joe's, and you're welcome to bring your dog to the park courtesy of Lucky Pawz. Fireworks will follow the game presented by Lujack's Northpark Autoplaza. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m. at Modern Woodmen Park.
