Charlotte Knights News Release

(Fort Mill, SC) - Charlotte Knights outfielder Dewayne Wise had his contract purchased by the Chicago White Sox earlier today, becoming the 13th Charlotte Knights player to go from Charlotte to Chicago this season. Wise, who was signed to a minor league contract by Chicago on August 3, appeared in seven games for the Knights this season and hit .161 (5-31) with three RBIs and three runs scored.

The White Sox transferred left-handed pitcher John Danks to the 60-day disabled list to make room for Wise on the 40-man roster. On Friday, they placed first baseman Paul Konerko on the seven-day disabled with a concussion.

Wise, who was born in nearby Columbia, SC, hit .262 with three home runs and eight RBIs for the Yankees in 55 games earlier this season. He began the season with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and hit .329 with four home runs and 10 RBIs over 21 games. New York purchased his contact from Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on May 4.

In 2009, Wise appeared in seven games for the Knights and hit .333 before appearing in 84 games for the White Sox that season. On July 23, 2009, Wise saved Mark Buehrle's perfect game with a leaping catch over the left center field wall.

Wise, 34, is the third position player to go from Charlotte to Chicago this year, joining infielder Ray Olmedo and outfielder Jordan Danks. He also joins 10 pitchers (RHPs Dylan Axelrod, Brian Bruney, Deunte Heath, Brian Omogrosso, Jhan Carlos Marinez, and LHPs Pedro Hernandez, Jose Quintana, Eric Stults, Leyson Septimo and Donnie Veal), who have all received promotions to the White Sox this season.

The Charlotte Knights are the Triple-A affiliate of the Chicago White Sox. The Knights host the Norfolk Tides tonight at 7:15 p.m. Tickets to see the Knights are available at the Knights Ticket Office located at Knights Stadium, online at www.charlotteknights.com, or by phone at 704-357-8071 (North Carolina) or 803-548-8050 (South Carolina).
