Winnipeg, MB. -- The Brandon Wheat Kings have taken a 2-1 lead in their Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series with the Calgary Hitmen.

The Wheat Kings scored two unanswered second period goals Sunday night en route to a 4-1 victory before 3,600 fans at Winnipeg'sMTS Centre.

After going to the dressing room after one period tied at one, goals byMichael Ferland andEric Roy - with only 18.9 seconds remaining in the second - gave Brandon a two goal lead and the Wheat Kings never looked back.

Bruno Mraz, with his first ever WHL playoff goal, and former Victoria Royal centerKevin Sundher, with his first of the series rounded out the scoring for the Wheat Kings, who improved their overall playoff record at MTS Centre to 4-3.

Alessio Bertaggia added two assists for the winners whileGreg Chase replied for the Hitmen, who were outshot 42-27, including 15-5 in the second period.

Corbin Boes made 26 saves for the win whileBrandon Glover suffered his first loss of the season against the Wheat Kings. Including the regular season, Glover had won four straight games against Brandon in 2011-12.

Game four of the best of seven series is scheduled for Tuesday night in Winnipeg, with game five set to go on Thursday night at MTS Centre.

Brandon's first round playoff home games are being played in Winnipeg - for the second straight season - because of theRoyal Manitoba Winter Fair.
