Portland Winterhawks News Release
Hawks Happenings On The Ice:
After the Winterhawks took the opening two games in Portland against the Kelowna Rockets in their first round playoff series, play now shifts to Kelowna for Game 3 Tuesday and Game 4 Thursday. Both games can be heard live on winterhawks.com, with an extended pre-game show that begins at 6:20, and post-game shows that will feature interviews with players and coaches.
Portland outscored Kelowna 10-3 in the first two games, and the +7 goal differential is tied with the Tri-City Americans for the best mark on the league after the opening weekend of postseason play. The Winterhawks outshot Kelowna 94-49 over the two games, with two periods with 20 shots and only one of six periods with fewer than 10. Kelowna did not reach double figures in shots in any period after the first period of Game 1.
Mac Carruth posted his second career playoff shutout in Saturday's Game 2, and his 1.50 goals against average ties him for first in the WHL after the first weekend of postseason play, while his save percentage of 93.9% is second. He now has 20 career postseason victories, extending the franchise record he set last season.
The Winterhawks have added center Presten Kopeck to the roster for this week's games in Kelowna. Kopeck was drafted by the Hawks in the third round of the 2010 WHL Bantam Draft, and signed with the team on January 24. He just completed his season with the Lloydminster Bobcats of the Alberta Junior Hockey League, where he registered 11 goals and 19 assists for 30 points in 56 games. He added one assist in three playoff games.
