Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Winnipeg, MB. -- The Western Hockey League's Brandon Wheat Kings have announced plans to recognize the 2012 Manitoba AAA Midget Hockey League Champions before Tuesday's playoff game at MTS Centre in Winnipeg.
The Wheat Kings, who will be taking a 2-1 series lead into Tuesday's WHL Eastern Conference Quarterfinal game against the visiting Calgary Hitmen, will introduce members of the Winnipeg Midget Wild before the game's opening face-off.
The Wild defeated the Southwest Cougars in this year's League Final and will be one of two Manitoba teams to participate in this year's Telus Western Regional Championship, to be held in the new Virden Multi-Purpse Recreation Facility.
Members of the Wild include goalkeepers Alex Moodie and Ty Edmonds, defencemen Brett Lernout, Kevin Pochuk, Bradley Reichardt, Brett Griffin, Danys Chartrand and Mack Heisinger as well as forwards Corey Haverstick, Hayden Goderis, Christian Stockl, Remi Laurencelle, Ryan McDonald, Tearon Lewis, Paul Soubry, Jesse Miller, Sean Higgins, Geordie Maguire, Tyler Garrioch and Shawn Pachet.
The Wilds' coaching staff includes Paul Krueger, Dustin Hughes and David Lecuyer. The managers are Rick and Dianne Rogers and Stacey Bulat is the team's athletic therapist.
The Wild will be joined by the Host Cougars at this year's Championship, which will be held this coming weekend in Virden. The Wild will open up the weekend event on Thursday afternoon against Saskatchewan while the Cougars will play the NW Ontario representatives at night.
As for the Wheat Kings, Brandon regained the series lead Sunday night with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Calgary Hitmen in the first of three games to be played this week at MTS Centre. Former Victoria Royal Kevin Sundher scored once and set up another as the Wheat Kings improved their lifetime playoff record at the home of the National Hockey League's Winnipeg Jets to 4-3.
Sunday's game featured a pre-game ceremonial opening face-off with Winnipeg Jets' Andrew Ladd and Eric Fehr. A Winkler product, Fehr is a former member of the Wheat Kings while Ladd played two seasons with the Hitmen in Calgary.
Tickets to game four and five - scheduled for Thursday night in Winnipeg - are on sale at all Ticketmaster locations, online at ticketmaster.ca or by calling Toll Free 1-855-985-5000.
