Brandon Wheat Kings News Release
Brandon, Manitoba - The Brandon Wheat Kings have announced that they have recalled two players from their respective midget clubs as they continue preparations for the Western Hockey League's Eastern Conference Semi-Finals.
16-year old goalkeeper Liam Liston has arrived in Brandon and is expected to remain with the 2010 Eastern Division pennant winners for the balance of the season, including the 2010 MasterCard Memorial Cup in May.
Meanwhile defenceman Jordan Fransoo, 16, will skate with the Wheat Kings all week and will remain with the club for the first two games of round two of post season play before returning home.
A third round pick (57th overall) of the Wheat Kings in the 2008 WHL Bantam Draft, Liston compiled a 16-3-0 record, a sparkling 2.23 goals against and an.898 save percentage this past season with the St. Albert AAA Midgets.
As for Fransoo, who was Brandon's 4th round selection and 99th overall pick in the 2008 draft, he played in 42 games this past season with the Saskatoon AAA Midget Contacts, who lost out in the deciding game of the league final to Notre Dame. Fransoo scored eleven goals and 31 points while accumulating 56 minutes in penalties.
Liston and Fransoo were also members of Team Pacific and Team Western at the World Under 17 Championship in Timmins, Ontario in December.
Both players will be skating with their new team Monday afternoon when the Wheat Kings hit the ice at the Canada Games Sportsplex.
After sweeping the Swift Current Broncos in their best of seven opening round playoff series, the Wheat Kings are preparing to play the Saskatoon Blades or Moose Jaw Warriors in round two.
The Warriors, who jumped out to a 3-1 series lead against Calgary will face the Hitmen in the seventh and deciding game of their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Monday night and a Moose Jaw victory will earn them a date with the Wheat Kings. However, should the league leading Hitmen win game seven, Brandon will meet the Blades, beginning this weekend in Saskatoon.
Dates and times will be announced on Tuesday.
