Wheat Kings look to stave off elimination

March 28, 2008 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Brandon Wheat Kings News Release

Brandon, Manitoba -- Playoff fever. There's nothing like it.

For the second time in three nights, the Brandon Wheat Kings will have their backs against the wall when they take to the ice to meet the Lethbridge Hurricanes in game five of their best of seven Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinal.

On Wednesday night, the Wheat Kings scored three times early in the third period en route to a 5-1 victory to stave off elimination.

Tonight, the Wheat Kings hope to continue their home ice winning ways and send the series back to Lethbridge for games six and seven (if necessary) on Sunday and Monday nights.

Winners of seven of their last eight at Westman Place, the Wheat Kings are 12-2-1 in their last fifteen games played on home ice.

The Wheat Kings are hoping to become only the second team in WHL history to come back from a 3-game deficit to win a playoff series. In 1996, the Spokane Chiefs won four straight games to beat the Portland Winter Hawks in the seventh and deciding game of their opening round playoff series.

After averaging over 4,100 fans during the regular season (second best in franchise history), the Wheat Kings are hoping for a large, Friday night crowd tonight.

As of 10 a.m. Friday, just over 2,500 tickets had been sold for what will be Brandon's final home game of this playoff series against Lethbridge.

Tickets to Friday's game are on sale now at the Keystone box office, by calling 726-3555 or online at ticketmaster.ca.
