Brandon, Manitoba -- The Brandon Wheat Kings staved off elimination in their best of seven Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Quarterfinal Series with Lethbridge Wednesday night, scoring an impressive 5-1 victory over the Hurricanes at Westman Communications Group Place.

Game five of the best of seven opening round series is scheduled for Friday night at Westman Place, with Brandon trailing the series three games to one. Game six and seven (if necessary) will be played Sunday and Monday nights in Lethbridge.

Jay Fehr scored twice and captain Daryl Boyle, the 21-year old Lethbridge product added four assists for the winners, who led 1-0 through forty minutes of play.

Brandon blew the game open with three goals in a span of four minutes early in the third period to take a 4-0 lead and never looked back.

Daniel Bartek, with his second in as many games, Matt Calvert, with his first ever WHL playoff goal and Matt Lowry, with his second of the series also scored for the Wheat Kings, who outshot Lethbridge 30-23.

Zach Boychuk scored the Hurricanes' lone goal, breaking Joe Caligiuri's shutout bid with less than eight minutes remaining in regulation time.

After going 2-20 with the man advantage through the first three games of the series, Brandon was 2-6 on Wednesday. The Hurricanes meanwhile went 0-4, including a five minute advantage in the first period when referees Nathan Wieler and Devin Klien assessed 16-year old rookie Brayden Schenn with an interference major and game misconduct for injuring Lethbridge defenceman Jeff May, who was cut on his cheek.

However, May didn't miss a shift and played the balance of the game on the Lethbridge blueline.

Tickets to game five go on sale at 9 a.m. Thursday morning at the Keystone box office. Fans can also order by phone at 726-3555 or online at www.ticketmaster.ca.
