Everett Silvertips News Release

The Spokane Chiefs withstood a stronger Silvertips performance and prevailed 4-1 Wednesday night at Comcast Arena. With the victory, the Chiefs now lead the best-of-seven series three games to zero.

Spokane defenseman Trevor Glass was whistled for delay of game early on in the first period to put Everett on the power play. After the 'Tips were unable to hold the puck in the zone, forward Levko Koper picked up a loose puck at center ice and positioned himself in front of Dan Gendur for a breakaway. He beat Leland Irving up high with a backhander for a shorthanded goal to put Spokane up 1-0 at the 7:15 mark.

The Chiefs made it a 2-0 game 2:09 into the second period when David Rutherford's shot was stopped by Irving, only to see the long rebound kick out off Irving's left pad and right onto Ondrej Roman's stick. Roman buried the rebound for his third goal of the series as Judd Blackwater provided a secondary assist.

Everett clawed their way back into the game with Gendur's first goal of the playoffs at 13:49 of the second period. After the puck was poked away from Zach Hamill, Gendur took the loose puck, showed patience while skating through the slot and eventually beat Tokarski down low to cut the deficit in half as Jonathan Harty provided a secondary assist.

The game remained 2-1 in favor of Spokane until the late stages of the third period, when Mitch Wahl carried the puck behind the Everett net before dishing it out in front, when Drayson Bowman stuffed it past Irving in a goalmouth scramble for his third of the postseason at 15:20. Everett pulled Irving with just under three minutes to go as Judd Blackwater finished the scoring with an empty netter at 16:38.

Everett outshot Spokane for the first time in the series, 29-23.

The two teams meet Friday evening in Everett at 7:35. Should the Silvertips prevail, they will host a home contest on Saturday evening as well.
