What to Watch for as LouCity Hosts the Charleston Battery
Published on April 3, 2026 under United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Louisville City FC News Release
The two winningest clubs in the USL Championship will meet Saturday, as Louisville City FC hosts the Charleston Battery at Lynn Family Stadium. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
Louisville is fresh off its history-making 200th league win, a 1-0 road victory over Brooklyn FC last week. That win earned LouCity the distinction of being the first club in league history to reach the 200-win plateau.
Charleston is the nearest team to that total, with 192 victories.
While that history is important, there's more recent history that makes the matchup intriguing. It has become an on-field rivalry for supremacy, not just in the Eastern Conference but the entire USL Championship.
LouCity and Charleston have finished first and second in the regular-season standings each of the last two years, with LouCity edging Charleston for the USL Championship Players' Shield title each season.
This season, LouCity (4-0-0, 12 points) is off to a roaring start and looks like the favorites for a third straight Players' Shield, awarded to the regular-season champion. Louisville has won every game it has played this season, including four league games, and sits in first place in the league standings.
Charleston, though, has work to do if it hopes to challenge LouCity's purple predominance. The Battery (2-1-0, 6 points) are sixth in the Eastern Conference pecking order, albeit early in the campaign.
Like those Players' Shield titles, the recent head-to-head history between the clubs has also gone LouCity's way.
Louisville has won three straight in the series, including a pair of wins at Lynn Family Stadium, both played before raucous crowds of more than 13,000 fans.
Charleston has had the most recent playoff triumph between the two, however, knocking LouCity out in the 2023 Eastern Conference Final.

Storylines...
Dominance at home: Louisville City is on an 11-game unbeaten run against Charleston at home, between the USL Championship regular season and playoffs. If LouCity avoids defeat Saturday, the club would equal the league record for most home games without defeat in an active series.
Winning percentage: While LouCity and Charleston are the two winningest teams in USL Championship history, their all-time records certainly are not equal. LouCity holds a 200-67-75 tally in regular season games - a .584 winning percentage, the second-highest in league history among clubs with 50 or more wins (Orlando City SC - .656). Charleston, meanwhile, sits 192-134-116 all-time, with a four-year head start on LouCity, a .434 win rate.
Streaking out of the gate: LouCity has won four straight regular-season games to open the season. That is two wins from the USL Championship record for a season-opening winning streak, set by the 2011 Richmond Kickers and 2012 Rochester Rhinos. Across all competitions LouCity is on a six-game winning streak, a club record to open a season.
Helping hands: Four LouCity players have registered multiple assists this season: Ray Serrano, Taylor Davila, Chris Donovan and Jansen Wilson. Louisville is the only team in the league that has more than one player with multiple assists.
New look Battery: Charleston underwent significant roster turnover in the offseason. Cal Jennings and MD Myers, who scored 17 and 15 goals last year respectively, each left the club in the winter. Additionally, assist leader Juan Torres (10 assists in 2025) also departed, as did midfield dynamo Aaron Molloy. League veterans Sean Suber, Laurent Kissiedou and Maalique Foster were among the new additions to take their place.
