What to Watch for as LouCity Hosts Indy Eleven with Players' Shield Near

Louisville City FC News Release
With four games left in the regular season, Louisville City FC controls its own destiny in the race for the Players' Shield.
LouCity (19-1-6, 63 points) needs just four points to clinch the USL Championship regular season title for the second-consecutive year, as it plays host to rival Indy Eleven (9-12-5, 32 points) on Saturday at Lynn Family Stadium (7:30 p.m.).
In the standings, the second-place Charleston Battery trails Louisville by eight points, but is idle this weekend. While that means LouCity can't clinch silverware Saturday, it could come to within one point of securing the shield for a second-straight season with a win.
And with Louisville playing three of its final four games at home, fans might be envisioning a trophy lift at Lynn Family Stadium sometime in the next few weeks.
Louisville City will enter Saturday's game confidently. The club has won five-straight games, the longest league-winning streak since last season - LouCity last won five-straight from July 19 to Aug. 27, 2024.
The club is also on an incredible run at home in Lynn Family Stadium. LouCity is unbeaten in 13 league games at home this season. The last USL Championship regular season loss for LouCity in Butchertown was June 22, 2024, a stretch of 22 games.
Indy, meanwhile, is also playing well. The club has won two straight games, equaling its best winning form of the season. Last week, Indy notably defeated FC Tulsa, a club that currently leads the Western Conference, has already clinched a playoff spot and is in third-place in the Players' Shield race.
The rivals met recently, just over a month ago on Aug. 30. LouCity was a 3-1 winner on the day, during which the boys in purple overcame a second-minute Romario Williams goal for Indy to roar back with three goals unanswered, from Aiden McFadden, Kevon Lambert and Sean Totsch. The victory was what started the club's current five-game ride.
The game is Pink Night at Lynn Family Stadium, as LouCity honors Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The players will wear special-edition pink jerseys for the game, which will then be auctioned to support the UofL Health Brown Cancer Center. For tickets and more information, visit LouCity.com/pink.

Winning streak: If LouCity wins Saturday, it would be the club's first six-game winning streak in a single USL Championship regular season since 2020, when the club won six-straight from September 5 through October 3.
Pretty (good) in pink: LouCity has worn pink jerseys three times before, all wins: 2-1 versus North Carolina FC on October 9, 2018, 8-3 versus the Swope Park Rangers on October 12, 2019 and 4-3 against the renamed Sporting KC II on October 9, 2021.
Totsch's scoring touch: Louisville City FC defender Sean Totsch is in his 11th USL Championship season. In his first seven seasons he never scored multiple goals. In the four seasons since, he's scored at least three each season for a total of 25, including his winner last week at Detroit City FC.
Iron men: Last week, Totsch made history by setting the USL Championship's all-time appearances record, passing Kenardo Forbes with 296. However, he won't be alone in his Iron Man status on Saturday. Indy's Aodhan Quinn, a former LouCity captain, ranks third all-time in appearances (286) and is the league's all-time minutes leader (23,866), passing Totsch (23,790) for that distinction earlier this year.
No contest: The LouCity-Indy Eleven rivalry - known by fans as the Louisville-Indianapolis Proximity Association Football Contest, aka "L.I.P.A.F.C." - has been one-way traffic of late. Indy hasn't registered a win in the series since August 2022, a five-game stretch in which Louisville is 4-0-1 against its rival.
