Connecticut Whale News Release

The Whale went on their first road trip of the new season this past week, and a two-game journey to Norfolk, VA yielded an overtime loss and a regulation loss. On Friday night, Matt Gilroy scored his first two AHL goals, and a pair of Brandon Segal tallies brought the Whale back from a 4-2 third-period deficit, but the defending Calder Cup-champion Admirals prevailed in overtime, 5-4. Then, in Saturday's rematch, the Whale kept the pressure on Norfolk after falling behind early, but would again fall short, this time by a score of 6-3. Kyle Jean scored in Saturday's game and has points in all four of the Whale's games (3-3-6), as has team scoring leader Kris Newbury (3-4-7), who contributed a pair of assists in both of this weekend's contests.

This week:

After a Wednesday-night trip to Albany to visit the Devils (7:00 PM faceoff), the Whale return to the XL Center for a pair of home contests. On Friday night the Whale host the Hershey Bears (7:00), and, as at all Friday-night home games this season, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers until 8:00. Saturday night sees the arch-rival Providence Bruins invade Hartford for a 7:00 game, and it's "Haunted Hockey Night" at the XL Center.

Wednesday, October 24 at Albany Devils (Times Union Center), 7:00 p.m.

- The Devils (1-2-0-0, 2 pts.) won their first game of the season Saturday in their last action, a 4-0 shutout in Worcester in Albany's first road game of the year.

- Adam Henrique, a Calder Trophy finalist with Albany's parent club, the New Jersey Devils, last season, when he posted 16-35-51 in 74 NHL games, has one goal in three games with Albany to start this year.

- This is the first of six games on the season between the Whale and their Northeast Division rivals the Devils, and the first of three visits on the season by Connecticut to Albany. The Whale were 3-0-0-1 against the Devils last season, including a 3-2 shootout win and a 3-2 shootout loss in their two road games.

- Radio - live with Bob Crawford on "Beethoven Radio" AM 1290, and on-line at www.ctwhale.com.

Friday, October 26 vs. Hershey Bears at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

- At this game, and every Friday night Whale home game during the season, fans can enjoy $1 hot dogs and $2 beers from 6:00-8:00 PM.

- As a special treat for this game, each fan will receive a voucher for a free hot dog.

- This is the first of four meetings on the year between the Whale and Bears. The two clubs also played a four-game season series last year, and the Whale won three out of the four, splitting the two encounters at the XL Center.

- The Bears are 1-2-1-0 for three points through their first four games, and lost a wild 8-7 battle in their home opener Saturday against the Rochester Americans.

- Long-time Hershey offensive stalwarts Keith Aucoin and Chris Bourque are gone, but former Hartford Wolf Pack Jeff Taffe has 2-5-7 in four games for the Bears, and South Windsor, CT product Jon DiSalvatore has struck for 2-4-6.

- Radio - live with Bob Crawford on "Beethoven Radio" AM 1290, and on-line at www.ctwhale.com.

Saturday, October 27 vs. Providence Bruins at the XL Center, 7:00 p.m.

- For this first Whale Saturday-night home game of the season, it's "Haunted Hockey Night" at the XL Center, with plenty of Halloween-themed fun on tap.

- Providence has split its first four games thus far (2-2-0-0, 4 pts.), and the Bruins have won two of their first three on the road.

- This is the first game of a six-game season series between the Whale and the arch-rival Bruins, and the first of three visits by the Bruins to the XL Center. The Whale went 3-3-1-1 against Providence last year, 1-1-1-1 at home.

- Maxime Sauve (2-2-4) and rookie Ryan Spooner (1-3-4) are the Bruins' co-leaders in points so far, and Jordan Caron struck for a hat trick in a 4-3 win at Manchester Friday.

- Radio - live with Bob Crawford and Mark Bailey on "The Rock" 106.9 WCCC-FM. All Whale Saturday night games this year will be beamed on The Rock 106.9 WCCC's 50,000 watts of power.
