Milwaukee Admirals News Release

Mattias Ekholm...Defenseman Mattias Ekholm has helped to put a charge into the Admirals power-play unit, which converted on a 28.5% rate in three games over the weekend. Ekholm scored the game-winner in overtime on the PP Sunday afternoon against Houston and on Friday night he registered another power-play marker and added an assist on Patrick Cehlin's PP tally as the Ads attempted a comeback from three-goals down against Charlotte.

A native of Borlange, Sweden, Ekholm is averaging a point per game (2g-2a=4pts) in the young season. He has spent the past two seasons in the Swedish Elite League with Brynas, where he paced the team's defenseman in scoring in 2010-11 with 33 points and he also skated in two games for the Predators at the start of the year in 2011-12.

COMEBACK KIDS...In both of the Admirals wins this season they have trailed in the third period. Last night the Ads fell behind 3-2 with under ten minutes to play in the game, but then scored two goals in less than a minute to take a 4-3 lead. Houston tied the score at the 19:02 mark to force overtime, but Mattias Ekholm won the game with a power-play marker 51 seconds into OT. In the Ads other win, which came on opening night, Patrick Cehlin scored twice in the third to turn a 3-2 deficit into a 4-3 victory.

PLAYING FROM BEHIND...The Admirals are 2-2 this season in spite of the fact that they have lead for just 19:09 out of a combined 241 minutes. The Ads opponent has scored first in each game thus far and Taylor Beck's PP marker on Sunday in Houston is the only goal Milwaukee has scored in the first period this year. However, the Admirals have faired much better in the third period and overtime, outscoring opponents 7-3 and outshooting them 40-25.

SPREADING THE WEALTH...Less than 24 hours after being shutout by San Antonio, the Admirals exploded for five goals on Sunday against Houston, nearly matching their season output through three games (6). Five different players scored for the Admirals (Taylor Beck, Mark Van Guilder, Chris Mueller, Kevin Henderson, and Mattias Ekholm) and it was the first goal of the season for Beck, Van Guilder and Henderson. On the season seven different players have scored a goal and 13 have registered at least a point.

WELCOME TO MILWAUKEE... With a spat of early season injuries, the Admirals made their first recall of the year, summoning forward Josh Shalla from the Cincinnati Cyclones of the ECHL. In his first pro season, Shalla made his Admirals debut Saturday night against the Rampage and has also played in one game for Cincy. The Whitby, ON native played the last four seasons with Saginaw of the OHL and led the team last season with 40 goals and was second with 76 points.

Presidential Straw Poll

Friday, Nov. 2 vs. Lake Erie at 7 pm

When the Lake Erie Monsters come to town on the final Friday before the Presidential Election, the Admirals will take a straw poll by ways of the bobblehead in Wispolitics.com Decision 2012. The first 5,000 fans to the game will be asked to choose from either an Obama Bobblehead or a Romney Bobblehead, courtesy of Robert Haack Diamonds, (2,500 of each) and the first candidate to run out will be declared the winner.
