The Wolves opened the 2012-13 season with four straight wins before dropping their fifth game of the year on Saturday; Chicago's 4-0-0-0 start marked just the second time in franchise history it opened a season with four straight victories.
WOLVES HEADLINES
--- ZACK KASSIAN: Scored the opening goal in each of the Wolves three games last week and has registered four points (3G, A) during a current four-game point streak ... Tallied 10 points (4G, 6A) and 51 penalty minutes in 44 NHL games with Vancouver and Buffalo as a rookie last year ... Bagged 15 goals and 26 points in 30 AHL tilts with the Rochester Americans ... Represented the Western Conference squad at the 2012 AHL All-Star Game
--- NATHAN LONGPRE: Collected his third goal of the season on Friday, which shares the team lead ... Earned 11 goals, 10 assists, and 21 points in 59 AHL games with the Wolves and Springfield Falcons during his rookie campaign last year ... Posted eight goals and 18 points in 39 games with Chicago before being traded to Springfield in exchange for future considerations on Feb. 28 ... Netted three goals in 20 contests with Springfield
--- ANDREW GORDON: Dished out 2 assists in three games last week ... Recorded 3 assists and 5 points in 37 NHL games with the Anaheim Ducks last season ... Accumulated 5 goals and 6 assists in 29 AHL games with Chicago and the Syracuse Crunch during the 2011-12 campaign
--- EDDIE LACK: Saw his three-game winning streak to start the year end on Saturday ... Notched a 3-1-0 mark, 2.16 goal-against average and .927 save percentage in four tilts this season ... Amassed a 21-20-3 record, 2.31 goals-against average, and .925 save percentage in 46 games with the Wolves last year ... Ranked seventh in the AHL with a .925 save percentage and ninth in the league with a 2.31 goals-against average ... Collected four shutouts last year, the most by a Wolves goaltender since 2004-05
WOLF TRACKS
--- Forwards ANDREW EBBETT and BRETT STERLING and defenseman KEVIN CONNAUTON share the team lead with a +4 plus/minus rating this season; the 29-year-old EBBETT and the 28-year-old STERLING have yet to be on the ice for a goal-against this year.
--- Every player on the Wolves active roster has played in at least one contest this season and 25 of the 27 players on the roster have played in two or more contests.
--- Nine of Chicago's 10 goals-against this season have come in the third period of play; the Wolves have yet to allow a first-period marker this year.
--- The Wolves allowed 33 shots in Saturday's second and third period combined, which was more than the total shots surrendered in all four of their previous games.
--- Chicago has surrendered at least one power-play goal in each of its last four tilts (13 of 19); the team ranked sixth in the league last year with an 84.2 efficiency rating on the penalty kill (235 of 279), which was the seventh-highest kill rate in franchise history.
--- The Wolves have bagged just one power-play goal on 25 chances this season and have been denied on their last 11 man-advantage opportunities; Chicago shared 23rd in the AHL with a 15.4 efficiency rating on the power play last season (50 of 324).
THINK PINK!
--- The Wolves will take to the ice for warmups with special pink sticks on Sat., Oct. 27 in support of Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Each stick will be autographed by several players and be available for a $150 donation, the cost of a mammogram for those who can't afford one. Fans will be able to purchase a "Stick It To Breast Cancer" T-shirt for a $20 donation and autographed pink pucks for a $10 donation. --- The Wolves and Abbotsford Heat battled to a shootout with Chicago skating away with the extra point and a 3-2 win at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre
--- Forwards ZACK KASSIAN and NATHAN LONGPRE scored in regulation for Chicago
--- Goaltender EDDIE LACK stopped 27 shots in regulation and overtime and all three attempts in the shootout
Wednesday, Oct. 17

--- The Wolves and Peoria Rivermen each scored a goal in regulation, but defenseman ZACH MISKOVIC bagged the game-winning marker 2:59 into overtime to lift the Wolves to a 2-1 victory at the Allstate Arena
--- Right wing ZACK KASSIAN also scored for Chicago
--- Goaltender MATT CLIMIE stopped 29 shots in regulation and overtime
