ZEBULON, N.C. - The Carolina Mudcats, the Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers, are thrilled to announce today that infielder/outfielder Weston Wilson was named the Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ending on April 29. Wilson led the Carolina League in OPS, slugging and home runs during the last week of games running from April 23 through April 29.

Overall, Wilson went 7-for-14 with six runs, a triple, three home runs, four RBI and three walks while batting .412/.500/1.059 over five games during the last week of play. His league leading three home runs came over the span of two games (April 28 and April 29) and included a game-tying home run in the ninth (two-outs, 2-2 pitch) on April 28 at Down East. He also had a triple on top of the three home runs and led the league with a 1.059 slugging percentage and 1.559 OPS last week. His 1.559 OPS was additionally the fourth highest among all Minor League Baseball players from April 23 through April 30.

The 23-year-old Wilson began the last week's worth of games going 1-for-2 with a run and two walks on April 25 versus Myrtle Beach. The utility man (who started twice in left-field, once at first and twice in right-field between April 23 and April 29) went on to hit safely in each of his next four games and is currently in a five game hitting streak, thus raising his 2018 season batting average from .258 on April 22 to .317 on April 29.

The Brewers selected Wilson in the 17th round of the 2016 Draft out of Clemson University. He went on to play for the rookie level Helena Brewers following the draft and hit .318/.390/.498 with (a team high) 74 hits, 16 doubles, (Pioneer League best) seven triples, four home runs and 28 RBI over 62 games with Helena during the 2016 season. Wilson then made the jump to the Mudcats for the start of the 2017 season, before a mid-season transfer to Low-A Wisconsin following the All-Star break. He later returned to Carolina in early August and overall hit .241/.298/.326 with 63 hits, 26 runs, 11 doubles, a triple, three home runs and 27 RBI over 73 games with the Mudcats in 2017. He also hit .277/.366/.475 with 39 hits, 22 runs, nine doubles, two triples, five home runs and 26 RBI over 39 games with Wisconsin last season.

Wilson and the Mudcats are off on Monday, April 30, but will continue their current road trip on Tuesday, May 1 in Myrtle Beach versus the Pelicans. Carolina's next home stand begins on Friday, May 4 with game one of a three game series versus Down East. The three game home stand will include House Autry Family Friday Fireworks on May 4, a pint glass giveaway presented by Bud Light for Royal Gathering Night on Saturday, May 5 and Muddy's Buddies Kids Club Sunday on May 6.

The Carolina Mudcats are the proud Carolina League, Class-A Advanced affiliate of the Milwaukee Brewers. First established in 1991, the two-time Southern League Champion Mudcats are entering their 28th consecutive season of baseball at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, N.C. The 2018 season marks the first for the Mudcats under the ownership of the Milwaukee Brewers organization. This season will also feature the Mudcats as the host of the 2018 Carolina League All-Star Classic presented by US Foods, scheduled for Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Five County Stadium.
