Westchester Knicks News Release
ERIE, February 18, 2015 - The Westchester Knicks (9-23), the official NBA Development League of the New York Knickerbockers, fought rough travels prior to tonight's game, arriving in Erie just a couple of hours before tip-off. Unable to pace the Erie BayHawks (13-19), the Orlando Magic affiliate, the Knicks fell 106-91.
Both teams had trouble finding their shots in the first, Westchester only hitting 8-of-23, Erie 8-of-24. The teams kept it even for the majority of the quarter, changing leads four times and ending with a tie.
The second quarter looked much like the first with the exception of improved shooting from each side. Thanasis Antetokounmpo, coming off a 36 point game the previous night, led the way for the Knicks ending the half with 16 points. The BayHawks gave up 15 points on 13 turnovers in the first half, the Knicks better able to handle the ball with Erie only gaining four points from Westchester turnovers.
Erie dominated the third, outscoring the Knicks 28-19. With neither team leading by more than eight points in the first three quarters, the back and forth for the lead continued into the final minutes, the teams catching up with each other for five ties.
But with 4:28 on the clock, Erie took the lead and never looked back, the Knicks unable to score another point in the game. The BayHawks managed to score 15 more on their way to victory, topping Westchester 106-91.
Trey Gilder, one of Westchester's newest acquisitions, came off the bench to pace the Knicks with 19 points. Ben Strong and Darnell Jackson both posted double-doubles; Strong with a record team-high 18 rebounds, adding 16 points, Jackson supplying 13 points and 13 rebounds. Thanasis Antetokounmpo finished the night with 18 points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Peyton Silva led the way for Erie with 20 points, nine assists, and three steals. All five starters for the BayHakws posted double-digits, Seth Curry with 17, Drew Crawford with 14, Daniel Coursey with 12, and Kadeem Batts with 10. With a double-double, John Bohannon came off the bench to supply 10 points and 12 rebounds.
The Westchester Knicks return home to the Westchester County Center on Friday, Feb. 20, at 7:00 p.m. to take on the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. The game will be broadcast live on MSG+2, AM 1230 WFAS, and YouTube.
