Westchester Knicks News Release
SANTA CRUZ - In a highly anticipated match-up between two teams meeting for the first and only time this season, the Westchester Knicks (8-15) fell to the Reno Bighorns (9-12) by a score of 129-119 in both team's first showing at the 2015 NBA D-League Showcase.
The Knicks came out of the gate hot, hitting six of their first seven shots to jump 14-4 over the Bighorns. Reno answered with three quick threes in a row, taking advantage of Westchester turnovers adding an additional twelve points for the Bighorns in the first. With the Knicks avoiding shots from beyond the arc, the Bighorns would ultimately take the first quarter, leading Westchester 35-24.
Reno held on to the lead in the second, besting the Knicks by as many as 19 points early in the quarter with help from Quincy Miller's 14 points. Westchester would make a late comeback led by Marcus Ginyard who went 4-4, contributing eight points and three assists. A Knicks dunk show from Thanasis Antetokounmpo, Orlando Sanchez, and Markeith Cummings helped Westchester come within four of the Bighorns heading into the locker room.
Ben Strong picked up the pace for Westchester late in the third quarter, with Orlando Sanchez knocking in the tying points for the Knicks to ultimately take the lead for the first time in two quarters. Reno went a surprising 0-5 from behind the arc with no Bighorn contributing more than five points in the quarter; Andre Barrett of the Knicks knocking in 11 points with five assists.
The two teams turned up the California heat in the fourth quarter going shot for shot, the lead changing nine times with seven ties. Quincy Miller continued to dominate for the Bighorns, giving Reno 12 points in less than three minutes towards the end of the quarter which would ultimately push them past the Knicks for the win.
Orlando Sanchez led the way for Westchester with a team season high 27 points, surpassing NBA Call-Up Langston Galloway's previous record of 25. Adding 12 rebounds, Sanchez was one of three Knicks double-doubles. Andre Barrett knocked in 15 points, contributing 10 assists; Marcus Ginyard ending with 11 points with 10 rebounds. Thanasis Antetokounmpo and Ben Strong each added 14 points.
It was the Quincy Miller show for the Bighorns, the center with a game-high 35 points with eight rebounds. Two Bighorns saw double-doubles: Jordan Hamilton with 15 points and 10 rebounds, Sim Bhullar with 10 points and 11 rebounds. Brady Heslip added 22 points to the team's win.
