Iowa Wolves News Release
SANTA CRUZ, CA. - After trailing 3-0 to the Delaware 87ers with 11:16 to go in the first quarter, the Iowa Energy took the lead and never looked back, winning 115-102 at the NBA D-League Showcase presented by Samsung.
It was the first game both teams played at the annual D-League Showcase, where all games but the inaugural Showcase Cup championship game count for the 2014-15 regular season.
Coming into the Showcase having won four of their last six, the Energy (10-10) were led by 25 points, six rebounds and six assists from Kalin Lucas, who came in averaging 18.4 points. Coming off the bench for the visitors, Chris Allen contributed 17 points in 29 minutes of action, while fellow reserve Tyrus Thomas scored 15 in the win.
Iowa jumped out to an early lead to hold a 13-point advantage after the first quarter, and the two teams played to a stalemate the rest of the way.
Delaware (8-11) received 25 points from leading scorer D.J. Seeley and newcomer Jared Cunningham, who joined the team yesterday, dropped 16 points in 24 minutes off the bench. Each of the 87ers' top four scorers hail from the state of California, as Victor Rudd scored 18 points and 10 rebounds, and Drew Gordon put up 11 points in the loss. Delaware is now 5-4 in their last nine games after starting the year 3-7.
While the Sevens won the rebounding battle 45-41, Iowa topped the hosts 26-21 in the assist category. Both teams made a living around the basket, as each scored at least half of their points in the paint, where Iowa held a 58-56 advantage.
The Energy are looking to get revenge as they face off against the Erie BayHawks on Sunday at 12:45 p.m. PT in their second Showcase game. The BayHawks defeated Iowa 110-83 earlier this season in Iowa.
Delaware is scheduled to play against the Los Angeles D-Fenders on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. PT in their only meeting of the season. The D-Fenders defeated the 87ers in their two meetings last season.
