Westchester Knicks News Release

WHITE PLAINS, November 12, 2015 - The Westchester Knicks, the official NBA Development League affiliate of the New York Knickerbockers, beat the Maine Red Claws (Boston Celtics affiliate) in thrilling fashion for the NBA D-League season opener, the final score 105-103.

The Knicks tipped off the season with hot hands, running up the score 8-0 over Maine to start. Westchester guard Sean Marshall made the first basket of the year with a fade away jumper, a glimpse of what the veteran would offer throughout the game. Maine struggled to find its shots, shooting just 21.1% and trailing by as many as 12 in the first quarter.

The Red Claws nipped back in the second with the help of recent assignee James Young who had 12 points in the quarter. Though they passed the Knicks twice, it would be the last time Maine would hold the lead in the game.

Westchester guard Travis Trice II lit up the third quarter with 10 points, seven of which came as the Knicks went on a 9-0 run. Maine struggled to find the magic from beyond the arc, hitting just 2-of-13 three point attempts and Westchester cruised into the final quarter with a 12 point lead.

It looked as through Westchester would sail through the end but Maine's Corey Walden clawed his way back, tying it up with 50 seconds on the clock to make it 101-101. A DaJuan Summers jumper put the Knicks quickly back in the lead but Walden answered back with a driving layup. The battle between the two continued as Summers hit a fade away jumper with 14.2 seconds on the clock. A Walden shot at the buzzer gave the Red Claws a millisecond of hope, but the missed shot gave the Knicks the victory at home on opening night.

DaJuan Summers led the way for Westchester with a team-high 28 points, also notching nine rebounds and two assists. Travis Trice II finished the night with 19 points, adding seven assists. All five starters for the Knicks collected double-digit scoring, with Sean Marshall recording a double-double for the team with 18 points and 11 rebounds.

James Young held the high score of the game, finishing with 30 points for Maine. Jordan Mickey and Omari Johnson both recorded double-doubles for the Red Claws, Mickey with 20 points and 14 rebounds, Johnson with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Westchester Knicks return to the Westchester County Center for game two this Saturday, Nov. 14 for a 1:00 p.m. match-up against the Erie BayHawks. The game will be broadcast live on MSG 2 and YouTube.
