GREENSBORO, N.C. - The West Virginia Power scored in each of the last five innings to drub the Greensboro Grasshoppers 8-0 Wednesday night at First Horizon Park.

It was a tough night for the Hoppers. Starting pitcher Aaron Thompson came out of the game with a pulled muscle after throwing one pitch in the third innings. And third baseman Jon Fulton left after his second at-bat in the bottom of the fourth. Fulton was playing in his first game since suffering a concussion Aug. 18 against Lexington.

Greensboro entered the game having won four of its last five, but the result dropped the Hoppers to 14-16 at home in the second half of the South Atlantic League season. They're 29-28 overall in the second half and 65-62 for the season.

Power starter Will Inman pitched six innings and improved his record to 10-1 while lowering his ERA to 1.30. A third-round draft choice by the Milwaukee Brewers in 2005, the 19-year-old right-hander from Dry Fork, Va., settled down after a rocky start.

The Hoppers had chances in the first three innings but stranded five runners. Inman retired the last 11 batters he faced. Patrick Ryan and Kevin Roberts finished the shutout. Greensboro had only one base-runner in the final six innings, that coming on an error.

The game was scoreless through four innings, with David Humen throwing two shutout innings in relief of Thompson. But he faltered in the fifth when the Power scored three times, including a two-run double by Darren Ford.

Mat Gamel singled in a run in the seventh and hit his 15th home run of the season in the ninth.

Marc LaMacchia and Mauro Zarate followed Humen and the final out of the ninth inning was recorded by Paul Witt, a backup infielder. Witt, in his first mound appearance of the season, gave up an infield single and a bloop single before getting Michael Brantley to ground into a fielder's choice.

The game was the first of the final home stand of the season for the Hoppers. They meet the Power again Thursday at 7 p.m. at First Horizon.
