West Virginia Black Bears News Release
A shaky start by the Black Bears pitching would prove unredeemable as West Virginia lost game two 3-1 versus the State College Spikes on Sunday afternoon. The Black Bears could not recover as starting pitcher, Luis Escobar, gave up three runs early in the top of the first that would give the Spikes edge.
In-between, The Black Bears fought to stay alive holding off the Spikes through five consecutive innings. The Black Bears tried to rally back in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double to left by CF Clark Eagan putting them on the board 3-1.
Each team remained scoreless through the next three innings, ending the game with a final score 3-1.
RHP Brandon Bingel and RHP Julio Vivas each through two innings of shutout relief with six combined strikeouts for the Black Bears.
The Black Bears will be back tomorrow, June 27, at 7:05 p.m. as they try to take game three versus the State College Spikes. Tomorrow will be Italian Night at Monongalia County Ballpark. Come enjoy Italian food, music and decorations!
