Comeback Bid Falls Short for CT

ABERDEEN, MD - The Connecticut Tigers (6-4) lost game two of their series with Aberdeen, the affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, 6-5. The Tigers trailed 6-0 after five but fought back scoring five unanswered runs.

The IronBirds jumped ahead in the second inning with a two-run homer from left fielder Jason Heinrich, his first home-run of the season. Aberdeen added two more runs in the fourth, Stuart Levy contributed an RBI-single, followed by a sac-fly for centerfield Ryan McKenna. Jason Heinrich was at it again in the fifth bouncing an RBI-double down the left field line to pad the IronBirds lead to 5-0.

The Tigers trimmed the deficit in the sixth inning, trailing 6-0 Cesar Gonzalez ripped a double down the left field line to put runners on second and third with nobody out. Will Savage picked up his first career RBI with an RBI groundout to short, followed by a sac-fly off the bat of Cole Bauml, to make it 6-2.

The Tigers mounted a rally in the eighth inning, with the bases-loaded and two outs, Sam Machonis singled into centerfield to plate two Tigers and make it a 6-4. The Tigers crept closer with Blaise Salter at the plate, Will Shepley's wild pitch brought in another run from third to make it a one-run ballgame. The Tigers eventually loaded the bases but Austin Athmann struck out to end the threat.

The IronBirds tried to push insurance runs across in the eighth, but Eduardo Jimenez stranded runners at second and third to keep the Tigers within a run. In the ninth the Tigers could not push a run across against Andrew Elliott and the right-hander snagged his first save of the year.

Austin Sodders made his professional debut, pitching 2.1 innings, allowing two run and punching out four. Joe Navilhon took the hill for the first time out of the bullpen, tossing a scoreless seventh inning for the Tigers.
