West Michigan Earns Split with 9-3 Win

Lake County Captains News Release


(Comstock Park, MI)- Dominic Ficociello laced a triple to right field which plated two runs in the bottom sixth inning and the Whitecaps went on to beat the Captains 9-3 on Sunday afternoon. West Michigan scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth. With the win, the Whitecaps split the four game series with the Captains.

West Michigan scored a run in the bottom of the first inning. With a runner on third Raph Rhys lifted a sacrifice fly to right field and the Whitecaps led 1-0. In the third inning they added another run. Ben Verlander had the RBI single.

In the fourth, Nellie Rodriguez smacked his seventh homerun of the season off the batters eye in dead center field and the Captains led 3-2. West Michigan came right back and scored two runs in the bottom of the inning. Javier Betancourt had an RBI single and Raph Rhymes picked u his second of three RBI's with a triple to RF. The score was 4-3 Whitecaps after four innings

RHP Jordan Milbrath (1-3) started for Lake County and took the loss. Milbrath pitched four innings and allowed eight hits, four earned runs, three walks and one strikeout. Caleb Hamrick pitched one and one third inning in relief and allowed five earned runs. Hamrick walked three and allowed four hits. Alexis Paredes pitched a scoreless two thirds of an inning. Trevor Frank pitched a scoreless seventh inning. Wander Beras pitched a scoreless eighth.

RHP Buck Farmer (4-3) started for West Michigan and earned the win. Farmer pitched six innings and allowed three earned runs. Farmer walked two, allowed six hits and fanned nine. Will Lamarche pitched three scoreless innings of relief.

The Captains return home on Monday to Eastlake, OH for a brief three game home stand. The Fort Wayne TinCaps are in town. In the first game of the series Lake County will start RHP Adam Plutko (2-1, 5.48) and Fort Wayne will counter with RHP Kyle Lloyd (1-1, 1.74). First Pitch is at 6:30 PM from Classic Park.

Monday is Buck Night and will feature $1 Five Star Brand Hot Dogs, chips, French fries, popcorn, soda and beer and $1 off a box seat ticket.
