Bees Can't Sweep Away Kernels

(Burlington-IA)- A four game series sweep continues to elude the Burlington Bees (19-22) after the Cedar Rapids Kernels (20-23) came back from a four run deficit to defeat the Burlington Bees 7-6 on Sunday at Community Field.

For the first time in the series the Burlington Bees took the lead first, scoring two runs in the first inning. Mike Fish tripled in a run and then scored on an Eric Aguilera single and the Bees took a 2-0 lead.

Kody Eaves made it a 3-0 game with an RBI single in the second inning while Eric Aguilera would score on a double play off the bat of Angel Rosa extending the lead to 4-0.

Cedar Rapids cut the Bees' lead in half in the fifth inning on a Mitch Garver two run double.

With the Bees leading 5-2 the Kernels went on to score three times in the sixth inning, tying the game at five.

The Kernels scored twice in the ninth, taking a 6-5 lead on a Chad Christensen single to right. Cedar Rapids added another for 7-5 lead.

Kody Eaves smacked his second homerun of the season in the ninth inning but it wasn't enough as the Bees fell 7-6. Kernels' reliever Derrick Penilla (1-1) picked up the win while Brian Loconsole (0-1) was charged with the loss. Todd Van Steensel (1) earned the save.

The Bees hit the road Monday night to take on the Quad City River Bandits at 7:00 PM. Elliot Morris makes the start for the Bees against Edison Frias for Quad City.
