Peoria Chiefs News Release

PEORIA, IL- Arturo Reyes pitched hitless and scoreless ball through 6 2/3 innings, but the Peoria Chiefs couldn't come up with their third straight extra-inning win, falling 7-1 in ten innings to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Sunday afternoon. The loss gives the Chiefs a record of 25-17.

The Chiefs scored a run in the first inning for the third straight game. With one out, Jimmy Bosco doubled up the first base line. Juan Herrera followed with a single to right to give the Chiefs a 1-0 lead.

The Chiefs missed other opportunities to score over the next few innings. Herrera was left at third after a stolen base in the first inning. Steve Bean led off the second with a double but was stranded at third. CJ McElroy Jr. opened the third with a walk and Bosco singled. Both runners advanced on a deep fly out. Carson Kelly hit a ground ball to first and McElroy was thrown out at the plate. In the seventh, Bean walked and was sacrificed over by Mason Katz but didn't make it past second.

Arturo Reyes worked 6 2/3 innings before allowing his first hit, a bloop double that just eluded first baseman Jake Stone in shallow right field. At 108 pitches, Reyes was relieved by Brandon Lee who needed one pitch to get the final out of the inning.

With the Chiefs still leading 1-0 in the top of the ninth, Lee gave up a one-out home run to Michael Ratterree to tie the game. Lee worked around a double and stolen base of third to keep it tied at one. It stayed that way into the tenth.

Jeff Rauh made his season debut as he relieved Lee to open the tenth. Rauh issued a one-out walk to Johnny Davis. After Davis stole second, Rauh got a come-backer but the Chiefs couldn't get an out when they misplayed the run-down between second and third, which put runners at first and second. Clint Coulter tripled home both runs when left fielder Kenny Peoples-Walls dove for a fly ball that hit off his glove and Wisconsin had their first lead at 3-1. Jose Pena singled home Ratterree for a 4-1 lead. After the second out, Rafael Neda and Paul Eshleman hit back-to-back RBI singles to make it 6-1. Rauh came out in favor of Jake Stone who moved to the mound from first base. Stone threw a wild pitch that scored the final run of the frame, charged to Rauh.

Reyes' 6 2/3 innings pitched is a career-high. He walked three and tied his career-high with eight strikeouts. Lee went the next 2 1/3 innings allowing a run on two hits with a walk and a strikeout. Rauh (0-1) pitched 2/3 of an inning giving up six runs on four hits with two walks in taking the loss. Stone got one out while walking one and hitting a batter.
