SPIRIT ACQUIRES KASSEY KALLMAN & KRISTIE MEWIS

The Washington Spirit has acquired midfielder Kristie Mewis and defender Kassey Kallman from Boston Breakers as well as the No. 1 spot in the Distribution Ranking Order. In exchange, Boston will receive defender Megan Oyster, the Spirit's Nos. 3 and 9 overall picks in the 2017 NWSL College Draft, and the No. 2 spot in the Distribution Ranking Order. Read more

OFF-SEASON UPDATE

Crystal Dunn and the U.S. Women's National Team finished out 2016 earning two wins against Romania. Dunn started both matches, scoring a goal in the second match. The 24-year-old has scored 14 goals this year for the USWNT and is one of only two players to make an appearance in every match the FIFA No. 1 ranked team has played.

Down in Australia, the Newcastle Jets earned its first win of the season over the weekend with a convincing 4-0 win over Melbourne Victory. After three goals in the first 25 minutes and a late goal in the 90 th, the Jets cruised to the win. Kelsey Wys had a strong performance, making a few key saves to preserve a clean sheet for her side.

U-20 WOMEN'S WORLD CUP

Kaleigh Riehl, Maddie Elliston, Rose Chandler, and Emily Ogle spent their summer playing for the Washington Spirit Collegiate Academy team in the Women's Premier Soccer League (WPSL). Now they are spending their November in Papua New Guinea representing the United States at the U-20 FIFA Women's World Cup. The U.S. team, captained by 2016 U.S. Olympian Mallory Pugh, began their tournament with a 0-0 draw against the reigning U-19 European Champions France. Elliston, Ogle, and Riehl all played the full match for the U.S., and Chandler was an available substitute. The team earned its first win of the tournament in its second match against New Zealand last night.

Spirit Training Centers for January 2017 are now open for registration on a first-come-first-served basis in both Silver Spring, Maryland and Chantilly, Virginia.

All curriculum, and at least one of the sessions, will be under the direction of Washington Spirit head coach Jim Gabarra .
