FC Kansas City News Release

KANSAS CITY (Nov 16, 2016) - Kansas City Comets goalkeeper Stephen Paterson was named the Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) Week Three Player of the Week this afternoon. The Player of the Week is awarded by fan vote each week of the season.

Paterson is in his second year with the Comets, but the first as the starter. So far this season Paterson is one of the league leaders in wins (2) and is fourth in the MASL in save percentage (.647). Last Sunday, he had 8 saves and only allowed 3 goals in Kansas City's win over the St. Louis Ambush.

He set the tone for the victory though by scoring the game's first goal. The shot from just past the yellow line rocketed through the Ambush defense and straight into the far post netting. The goal was the first by a goalkeeper since Danny Waltman scored against the Chicago Riot in 2010. However Paterson's goal was the first score from the foot of a goalkeeper in the long history of Kansas City indoor soccer, and the first in the history of the MASL.

Paterson's Comets take their first road trip of the season to face the Milwaukee Wave on Saturday, November 19th at 6:05 p.m. CT. Fans are encouraged to go to Coach's Bar & Grill on 103rd & Wornall for a Comets Watch Party, or tune into the league's new broadcast channel, MASLtv.

The Kansas City Comets have a long rich history of indoor soccer in KC, including the 2014 MISL Championship. The reigning Back-to-Back MASL Central Division champions play at the Silverstein Eve Centers Arena. For tickets and information call 855.452.GOAL (4625)
