The Elmira Jackals announced on Wednesday that Athletic Trainer Brett Allen and Equipment Manager John Sellars will return for the 2010-2011 season. The upcoming campaign will be Allen's fourth and Sellars' second with the Jackals.
"It's always good to maintain continuity with your athletic trainer and equipment manager, and even better when you have people coming back who are as good at their jobs as Brett and John," Jackals general manager Robbie S. Nichols said.
Allen, who spent the summer as the head athletic trainer for the Jacksonville Sharks of the Arena Football League, has years of experience working with athletes. He has spent each of the last four seasons working in hockey, three with the Jackals and one, in 2007-2008, with the Twin City Cyclones of the SPHL. Allen also has experience in professional baseball, training in the minor leagues before turning to hockey.
The Gainesville, Fla. native attended Middle Tennessee State University, serving as a pitcher for the Blue Raiders' baseball team before receiving his degree in Athletic Training.
Prior to joining the Jackals before the 2009-2010 season, Sellars was the equipment manager with the ECHL's Augusta Lynx for over a season before the team dissolved in 2008. Before his stint with the Lynx, the Summerville, S.C. product worked as the equipment manager with the UHL's Roanoke Valley Vipers in 2005-2006.
The Jackals open up the regular season at home on Friday, Oct. 15 against the Cincinnati Cyclones. Season tickets are on sale now. Call (607) 734-PUCK (7825) for more information.
Fans looking to get their hockey fix sooner can stop by the Fifth Annual Elmira Jackals Pro Placement Camp, taking place on Saturday, Sep. 4, and Sunday, Sep. 5 at First Arena. The event is free to the public.
