Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
GREENVILLE, SC -The Greenville Road Warriors, ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and Philadelphia Flyers, announced today that they have signed forwards Justin Bowers and Peter MacDougall.
"These two players each bring a unique element to our forward corps. Justin Bowers is a highly-skilled offensive player who is a threat at even strength and on the power play while Peter MacDougall is a physical, high-energy player who has great leadership qualities," said Head Coach Dean Stork.
A third-year pro, Bowers, 25, joins the Road Warriors after spending a season with the Allen Americans in the Central Hockey League. The Halifax, Nova Scotia native finished 2009-10 second on the Americans, and 12th in the league, with 73 points (23G, 50A). His points, goals, and assists totals were all career highs and he piled up those numbers in just 49 games. Bowers continued his production in the playoffs and notched 30 points (12G, 18A) in 20 games as the Americans reached the championship series before falling to the Rapid City Rush in six games. It will be the 6-0, 190-pound forward's second stint in the ECHL. As a rookie with the Dayton Bombers in 2008-09 Bowers averaged better than a point per game with 45 points (15G, 30A) in 44 contests. Over his career, Bowers has also played in 29 American Hockey League games between Abbotsford, Lake Erie, and Quad City and notched nine points (5G, 4A).
"Greenville is best spot for me because Dean seemed really keen on helping me get to the next level. I believe that Greenville will give me every opportunity to do that. It looks like we are shaping up to have a pretty good team and I am committed to doing whatever I can to help the team win," said Bowers.
MacDougall, 24, will begin his pro career this season after playing NCAA hockey for the last four at Canisius College. He hails from Lumsden, Saskatchewan and captained the Griffins in his final two seasons. Under his leadership the team posted a 32-21-11 cumulative mark. A 6-0, 200-pound left wing, MacDougall produced 27 points on eight goals and 19 assists in 128 games. He also finished his career as the Griffins' all-time leader in penalty minutes with a total of 398. He racked up 131 PIMs as a senior last season and 116 in 2007-08 as a sophomore; single-season totals that rank second and fourth, respectively, in Canisius history. Away from the rink, MacDougall was recognized in each of his final three seasons as a member of the Griffins' All-Academic Team.
"Talking with Dean it sounds like there is a ton of excitement in Greenville with the team coming into this season, and I'm looking forward to working hard to help make us successful. I know I need to bring a physical style of play and focus on things like blocking shots and killing penalties to do my job well. And I'll definitely stick up for my teammates when necessary," said MacDougall.
