Weiman named CHL Goaltender of the Month

WINDSOR, CO- Colorado Eagles rookie netminder Tyler Weiman was named the Sher-Wood Goaltender of the Month by the Central Hockey League today.

Weiman has been rock solid in net all season for the Eagles and had his best month in December. The rookie won nine times, had a goals-against average of 1.73, and a save percentage of .942 in eleven games. He recorded two of his league-leading five shutouts in the month, one against the Tulsa Oilers on December 17 and against the Amarillo Gorillas on December 29. He also had two, four-game winning streaks in only his second full month of professional hockey.

The Lloydminster, Alberta native leads the CHL in a number of categories for goaltenders this season. He is tops in goals-against average (1.63), save percentage (.943), and shutouts (5). Weiman's superb play has not been unnoticed as he will start in net for the Northern Conference in the 2005 CHL All-Star Game on January 12 in Laredo, Texas. He will be joined by right wing Greg Pankewicz and left wing Kevin Marsh at the All-Star Game.

Weiman was drafted in the fifth round by the Colorado Avalanche in 2002, and was awarded the CHL Goaltender of the Week for Week Four this season. He was named Rookie of the Year for the Tri-City Americans in the Western Hockey League in 2000-01, and holds the record for all-time wins (67), minutes played (11,114), and games played (200) for the Americans.

Weiman and the second place Eagles take on the Topeka Tarantulas tonight at the Budweiser Events Center at 7:05 p.m. MST. They will again battle Topeka on Friday, January 7 at 7:05 p.m. MST. Friday night's game will be televised on Altitude Sports and Entertainment. The Eagles will then go on the road for the next five games starting in Lubbock, where they take on the Cotton Kings on Saturday, January 8 at 6:05 p.m. MST.
