January 5, 2005 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Wichita Thunder News Release
WICHITA, KS- The Central Hockey League today named Thunder center Travis Clayton the Sherwood CHL Player of the Month for December, Wichita's seventh award winner this season.
Clayton, a native of Paradise Hill, Saskatchewan had a tremendous month, leading the Thunder to nine wins with an incredible 10 goals and 22 points in just 13 games. A 2005 CHL All-Star, Clayton is currently riding a 13-game scoring streak, one game shy of a 14-game scoring streak he put together earlier this season. During December he recorded eight multiple-point games and has already followed that up with six points in two January contests.
Clayton, who will be playing in his fifth CHL All-Star Game, leads the CHL with six game-winners and ranks fourth overall with 20 goals. He is tied with teammate Jason Duda for the CHL scoring lead with 51 points. Ironically Duda, who is also a CHL All-Star, recorded 22 points during the month of December as well. Thunder defensemen Paul Esdale will also represent the Northern Conference squad in the 2005 Dodge CHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, January 12th in Laredo, Texas.
Clayton, who was twice named Oakley CHL Player of the Week in December, is Wichita's second monthly award winner this season. Jamie Vandespyker was named Sherwood CHL Goaltender of the month for October. Rookie goaltender Jason Flick, veteran Scott Allison and Duda, the reigning CHL Player of the Week, have also received CHL awards this season.
The Thunder, with a CHL-best record of 23-7-1, will host the Tulsa Oilers on Friday and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs on Saturday. Both games will face-off at 7:30 PM. The Thunder, riding their second eight-game winning streak of the season, are just one win shy of the longest winning-streak in franchise history. Following the CHL All-Star game next week, the Thunder will play four straight on the road, beginning with a pair of games next weekend in New Mexico.
Corporate packages and season tickets for the 2004-05 campaign are also still on sale. To order your tickets or for more information, call the Thunder office at 264-GOAL or visit our website at www.wichitathunder.com.
