
Weekly Update: Red Bulls Prepare for Season Finale

HARRISON, NJ (October 21, 2013) - The first place New York Red Bulls prepare this week for their final regular season game of the season, as they battle the Chicago Fire at Red Bull Arena at 5:00 PM in an important match that could decide the winner of the MLS Supporters' Shield (TV: MSG - Pre-Game Show at 4:30 PM, UniMas; Radio: ESPN Deportes Radio Nueva York 1050 AM).
Postseason-bound New York has destiny in its own hands and a win against Chicago would ensure that the Red Bulls would win the MLS Supporters' Shield - awarded to the team with the most points in the regular season - for the first time ever in club history. Red Bulls-Chicago Fire Preview
Riding seven-game unbeaten streak (5-0-2) and coming off a 3-0 win over the Houston Dynamo on Sunday on the road, the Red Bulls (16-9-8, 56 pts.) will look to secure their first MLS Supporters' Shield when they host the Chicago Fire on Fan Appreciation Night.
The Red Bulls hold a one-point lead over Sporting Kansas City, a two-point advantage over the Portland Timbers, and a three-point lead on Real Salt Lake entering the final week of MLS play in the shield race. With Real Salt Lake playing Wednesday night and Kansas City and Portland playing Saturday, New York will know before it takes the field if it needs the full three points to earn its first Supporters' Shield.

The Red Bulls host a Chicago squad that is trying to clinch a spot in the 2013 MLS Cup Playoffs. The Fire defeated Toronto FC, 1-0, last Saturday at TOYOTA Park with former New York and LA Galaxy forward Mike Magee scoring a second half penalty kick goal. Chicago enters the weekend in a third-place tie with the Montreal Impact with 49 points and a 14-12-7 record. Magee is in the thick of the MLS Golden Boot race with a League-high 20 goals this year. In the teams' only match of the season on April 7, the Fire earned a 3-1 win at TOYOTA Park.
