Colorado Rapids Forward Gabriel Torres Voted MLS Player of the Week

Published on October 21, 2013 under Major League Soccer (MLS) News Release

NEW YORK (Monday, October 21, 2013) - Colorado Rapids forward Gabriel Torres was voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for week 34 of the 2013 MLS season.

Days after returning from Panama's World Cup Qualifier against the U.S., Gabriel Torres scored a brace to secure the Rapids' 3-2 victory Saturday night over the Vancouver Whitecaps FC at Dick's Sporting Goods Park. With the win, the Rapids virtually have assured themselves a spot in the MLS Cup Playoffs.

In the 41st minute, Colorado was awarded a penalty kick when Drew Moor was pulled down inside the box. Torres stepped up and coolly converted the kick to the right side of the goal, bringing the Rapids level with the Whitecaps, 1-1.

In the 77th minute, Torres scored the game-winner when he collected a ball at the corner of the 18 yard box, took two touches to the inside and fired a shot into the upper left corner of the goal.

The Colorado Rapids are back in action Sunday, October 27 when they travel to BC Place to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps FC (8:00 p.m. ET, MLS Live).

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media. More information and membership information can be found at http://www.soccerreporters.com/.
