QMJHL Charlottetown Islanders

Weekend Set against Baie-Comeau and Chicoutimi Gets Underway Tonight

October 6, 2023 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Charlottetown Islanders News Release

The Isles are on the road for thanksgiving weekend as their first stretch through Québec begins in Baie-Comeau.

Charlottetown will face the 4-0-1-0 Drakkar to open the weekend set, who are coming off of a 4-3 win against Chicoutimi.

Carter Bickle will make his third start of the season for the Isles. In two games so far he is 1-1. Bickle is posting a 3.50 goals-against-average and a .877 save-percentage.

Alexis Jacques, call-up from the Edmundston Blizzard, remains in the lineup as Lane Hinkley stays out due to concussion symptoms.

Jacques assisted on the opening goal in the 4-3 win over Bathurst in his Islanders debut. He has some experience in the Q, playing 39 games over two seasons for the Victoriaville Tigres, posting one goal and two assists over that span.

Captain Michael Horth is a player to watch for the Isles tonight, as he has five goals in five games keeping up a goal-per-game pace early into the season.

Defenseman Marcus Kearsey looks to find the back of the net for the first time this season, putting up three assists in his first five games of the year.

Puck drop in Baie-Comeau is at 8:00 p.m. at the Centre Henry-Leonard.

Then on Saturday night, the Isles will roll into Chicoutimi to take on the 1-3-1-0 Saguenéens.

The Isles will get their first look at Maxim Massé, 2022 third overall pick, who has gone point-per-game in the first five of the season.

Aksels Ozols will likely be between the pipes as he looks to continue his hot start to his QMJHL career.

The 17-year-old Latvian goaltender is posting a 2.36 goals-against-average and a .909 save percentage defending the net for the Isles this season.

Alex Huang has been a force on the back end for Chicoutimi so far this year with one goal, five assists and six points in five games and shows no sign of slowing down.

Charlottetown will need to take advantage of the goaltending of the Saguenéens. Both goaltenders are posting above a 4.0 goals-against-average.

This will also be the third game in four nights for both the Isles and Chicoutimi. It will be a test of who is better conditioned.

Puck drop at the Centre Georges-Vézina in Chicoutimi will be at 5:00 p.m.

Fans can tune into both games on MAX 93.1FM.
