Sarnia Sting News Release


Last weekend, the Sarnia Sting picked up 3 of a possible 6 points and currently remain in 5th place in the Western Conference standings. The Sting have earned points in 8 of their past 10 games, closing the gap on the Guelph Storm for 4th place and home ice advantage in the first round of playoffs.

Closing out a month where they have been plagued by injuries, the Sting expect Patrick White, Noah Bushnell and Justin Fazio to make their return to the lineup this weekend as the club heads East to take on the Ottawa 67's and the Kingston Frontenacs.

Sting Notes

Western Conference Standings: In a tight playoff race, Sting remain 4 points back of Guelph for 4th in the Western Conference standings. Record: 23-17-4-2

Rookie Scoring: The Sarnia Sting currently have 4 players among the top 12 in OHL Rookie scoring; Zacha (23 pts), Lajeunesse (23 pts), Chychrun (22 pts) & Kyrou (21 pts). Despite missing 20 games with an injury, rookie defenceman, Jakob Chychrun has 22 points in 26 games played.

Taylor Dupuis: Dupuis was busy between the pipes this past weekend as he turned aside an even 100 shots, including 41 in Sunday's win over Windsor. He currently sits in 8th with regards to save percentage for goaltenders in the OHL (0.910).

Josh Defarias: With multiple injuries in the lineup Defarias was called upon to play forward for the Sting on Sunday night recording his first two career OHL goals; one of which was the game winner.

Stephen Pierog: Pierog continues his excellent play since joining the Sting as he recorded a goal and an assist in Sarnia's 6-3 win over Windsor Sunday night. He now has 21 points in 26 games as a member of the Sting.

Alexandre Renaud: Renaud tallied goals in each of Sarnia's 3 games this past weekend, giving him 9 on the season.

Injury Report: Matteo Ciccarelli - upper body (indefinitely), Connor Schlichting - upper body (indefinitely), Pavel Zacha - upper body (2-3 weeks), Nikita Korostelev - upper body (week-to-week), Noah Bushnell - upper body (day-to-day), Justin Fazio - upper body (day-to-day), Patrick White - lower body (day-to-day).

Players to watch - Ottawa 67's

Travis Konecny: The former Elgin-Middlesex Chief was awarded Player of the Game honours for Team Orr at the BMO Top Prospects game last Thursday. He is projected to be taken in the first round of the upcoming NHL Entry draft, recording 20 goals and 42 points thus far this season.

Dante Salituro: Salituro leads all 67's skaters with a career high, 27 goals and 52 points on the year. The centreman recorded 1G 3A in Tuesday night's OT loss to the Generals.

Players to watch - Kingston Frontenacs

Lawson Crouse: Crouse is projected to be a top 5 pick in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft. The big-bodied winger has 16 goals on the year, 4 of which were powerplay markers. Crouse was a key part of Canada's World Junior team that captured Gold in Toronto.

Roland McKeown: Taken 50th overall by the LA Kings in last year's NHL Entry Draft, McKeown is a two-way defenceman with tremendous offensive upside. The Fronts' captain has 19 points on the year.
