Brampton Steelheads News Release

The Steelheads paid their final visit to North Bay Memorial Gardens this season tonight. Despite there being only three games on the OHL docket tonight, all five of the Central Division teams were in action.

Both sides came out of the gate with gusto, moving the puck around efficiently and covering all ends of the ice. The Battalion took hold of the shot clock in the first period, testing Jake Brennan every chance they got. The Steelheads had chances, but were stifled by the Battalion defence in the frame and were held to just a handful of shots. Midway through the frame, Everett Clark took a minor penalty for hooking, forcing to the Trout to the penalty kill. The Steelheads killed off the chance while Brennan was sharp, making a couple key saves. Shortly after the power play, Brett McKenzie picked up the puck in the slot and beat Brennan blocker side. The Trout trailed 1-0 at the end of one, and looked to the second to really get into the game.

Fight their way into the game they did. Just over a minute into the second frame, Jimmy Lodge tied the score with the Battalion, finishing off an awesome passing play from Everett Clark and Mikey McLeod. The Steelheads play picked up considerably once they found their competitive stride in the game. The Steelheads took just the second penalty of the game in the second frame, but remained perfect on the penalty kill to that point in the game. North Bay picked up their play as the period drew on. The Troops regained their lead and did not let up there. Before the period had ended, North Bay added three goals in response to the Steelheads tying goal, and took a 4-1 lead into the third.

The Steelheads came out very strong in the third, peppering North Bay goaltender Jake Smith with shots. Unfortunately for Mississauga, Smith was equal to the task in this game, and turned aside 25 of 26 total shots. The Battalion only notched nine shots in the final frame, but served up one more goal, effectively chasing Brennan from his net. The Trout certainly progressed as the game went on, but could not overcome their divisional rival on the road.

The Trout continue "swimming upstream" through Northern Ontario, with visits to Sudbury and Sault Ste. Marie Friday and Saturday respectively. The Steelheads return to the Hershey Centre to host the Barrie Colts on Friday, February 6. Great seats are still available! Log on to Ticketmaster to save time and buy online.
