Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release

WINNIPEG, MB - The following is a list of Blue Bomber achievements from their Week 4 game against the Ottawa Renegades, July 17:

BLUE BOMBERS - 6TH-LARGEST MARGIN OF VICTORY - WBB HISTORY After enduring a week of trash talking from the brash upstart Renegades, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers laid a big-ass beating on the expansion Ottawa side with a 55-7 thrashing Wednesday night at Canad Inns Stadium. The sissy-boy slapping of Ottawa did more than just give Winnipeg a victory and some payback - it put them in the record books. The 48-point victory is the 6th-largest margin of victory for the Blue Bombers in their 72-year history. The top six margins of victory are:

MARGIN GAME DATE SCORE
56 points Winnipeg vs. Montreal Aug. 8, 1981 58-2
56 points Winnipeg vs. Saskatchewan July 5, 1986 56-0
54 points Winnipeg vs. Hamilton Oct. 19, 1991 68-14
53 points Winnipeg @ Saskatchewan Aug. 29, 1959 61-8
51 points Winnipeg vs. Hamilton Oct. 2, 1993 61-10
48 points Winnipeg vs. Ottawa July 17, 2002 55-7

BLUE BOMBERS DEFENCE - 114 YARDS ALLOWED AND ZERO POINTS
Is it possible that the CFL's top defence in 2001 is even better in 2002? Well, the early poll results are in and indications are that the Big Blue D may indeed be better than a year previous. The Determined Dozen only gave Ottawa 114 yards in total offence on the night and kept the Renegades off the score sheet. Even more impressive is the fact that on the Gades 19 total drives in the game, they punted 14 times, turned the ball over four times and conceded a safety once. The fact Ottawa did not attempt a single field goal, only ventured into Winnipeg territory twice and never made it past the 43-yard line, speaks volumes about the job done by the defence.

ARLAND BRUCE III - 110 RECEIVING YARDS
Wide receiver Arland Bruce III is having a fantastic season. Leading the Big Blue in touchdowns with five, "Brucie" posted his 1st 100-yard game of the season and the 2nd of his CFL career by grabbing four passes for 110 yards and two touchdowns.

MARVIN COLEMAN - "MR. EVERYTHING" ON DEFENCE
Cornerback Marvin Coleman proved again Wednesday night why he is an all-star year in and year out. Coleman led all players in stops with seven defensive tackles. Good enough? Sure, but that wasn't all as he added a pass knockdown, a fumble recovery and a tackle for a loss to his defensive totals on the evening. Throw in his efforts on the punt return crew and it's just another exceptional night for the nine-year CFL veteran.

KHARI JONES - 157. 6 RATING
>From a passer efficiency rating perspective, Khari Jones' game against the Ottawa Renegades Wednesday was the best of his young CFL career. Jones completed 16 of 28 pass attempts for 325 yards, five touchdowns and zero interceptions for a 157.6 passer rating. The total eclipses a previous-best 150.9 rating Jones posted in a relief role in Week 3 of the 2000 season (150.9, Winnipeg @ Edmonton, July 21, 2000). The 100+ effort is the 2nd for Jones this year and the 12th of his career.

KHARI JONES - 5 TD PASSES
In Week 1 action against the Toronto Argonauts, Khari Jones became the first Winnipeg Blue Bombers quarterback in eight years to throw for five touchdowns in a single game. Well, only three weeks later "K.J." did it again. He threw for five touchdowns against Ottawa to raise his league-leading total to 14 touchdown passes. Jones had a sixth touchdown pass - a 47-yard hookup with slotback Milt Stegall - called back due to a questionable offside call.

KHARI JONES - 325 YARDS PASSING
Jones was extremely effective in his three-plus quarters of work, tossing for 325 yards on just 28 throws. The 300+ outing is the 2nd of the season for the Cal-Davis product and the 16th of his CFL career.

KHARI JONES - 6TH PLACE WBB ALL-TIME TOUCHDOWN PASSES
Once upon a time there was a player named Don Jonas who liked to throw the football. a lot. In his four seasons (1971-1974) with the Blue Bombers, Jonas chucked the ball 1,553 times for 75 touchdowns. In barely two seasons as a starter (34 games), Jones has equaled Jonas' 75 TD strikes in only 1,182 attempts - that's 371 fewer throws. Next up on Jones' touchdown hit list is Matt Dunigan, who totaled 84 TD tosses from 1992-1994.

KHARI JONES - 10,000 PASSING YARDS - CFL CAREER
In three years as a backup to Damon Allen in B.C., Khari Jones saw limited action and only managed 229 total passing yards. In two-and-a-quarter years with Winnipeg, Jones has simply been outstanding. He reached a meaningful milestone against Ottawa by passing for more than 10,000 career passing yards. Jones' total of 9,830 passing yards as a Blue Bomber player puts him only 170 yards cracking 10-grand as a member of the Blue & Gold.

HAROLD NASH, JR. - 50TH WBB GAME
Defensive back Harold Nash, Jr. has been a proud member of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers for the past few years. "Little Big Man" hit like a big mad man in Wednesday's game, his 50th as a Winnipeg Blue Bomber.

CHARLES ROBERTS -131 RUSHING YARDS
Speedy runningback Charles Roberts recorded his 2nd 100-yard rushing effort of the 2002 season and the 3rd of his CFL career with a 131-yard performance against Ottawa. More exceptional than the yardage is the fact that "Blink" made that yardage on only 11 total rushing attempts. Roberts becomes the first Blue Bombers runningback to record multiple 100-yard rushing games in a season since Deland McCullough did so three times in 1999.

CHARLES ROBERTS - 261 COMBINED YARDS
One week after totaling 252 total yards against the Ottawa Renegades, Charles Roberts went one better in Week 4 action against the Gades by amassing 261 combined yards. Among his highlights on the evening were two massive plays: a 57-yard punt return that put Winnipeg in scoring position and an explosive 70-yard touchdown run. Roberts, the CFL's leader in combined yards entering the contest, added greatly to his totals.

CHARLES ROBERTS - 1ST MULTIPLE TOUCHDOWN CFL GAME
Roberts did more than just total significant yardage against Ottawa - he scored touchdowns. His nine-yard touchdown reception and 70-yard touchdown run gave Roberts two scores on the night, the first multiple touchdown game of his CFL career.

MILT STEGALL - 9TH PLACE CFL ALL-TIME RECEIVING TOUCHDOWNS
Milt Stegall continues to amaze observers. With a 62-yard touchdown reception Wednesday, Stegall tied four players - Chris Armstrong, Jeff Boyd, Canadian Football Hall of Fame member Tony Gabriel and Jim Sandusky - for 9th place in the CFL's all-time receiving touchdown list with 69.

MILT STEGALL - 171 RECEIVING YARDS
The adage "big players make big plays" applies entirely to Milt Stegall. Witness the performance by "Turtle Man" against Ottawa in Week 4 action. He totaled 171 yards on only five receptions, thanks to big plays like a 62-yard touchdown score and a 59-yard reception. The effort was Stegall's 2nd 100-yard game of the season and the 28th of his storied CFL career.

TROY WESTWOOD - BLUE BOMBERS ALL-TIME LEADING SCORER
In 72 years of football play, no man has scored more points for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers than kicker Troy Westwood. The Augustana product totaled 17 points against Ottawa to surpass former Winnipeg kicker Trevor Kennerd, who recorded 1,840 points in his career. Westwood has 1,853 points and counting.

TROY WESTWOOD - 7TH PLACE CFL ALL-TIME SCORING
Westwood's point total also put him into sole possession of 7th place on the CFL's all-time scoring list.

TROY WESTWOOD - BLUE BOMBERS ALL-TIME KICKOFF LEADER
I guess setting one club record in a game wasn't enough for Winnipeg kicker Troy Westwood. After becoming the football club's all-time leading scorer, the 12-year CFL veteran added the Blue Bombers kickoff attempts record to his résumé. The 869 career kickoffs by "Westie" surpassed the total of 865 set by the previous record holder Trevor Kennerd.

TROY WESTWOOD - 7TH PLACE CFL ALL-TIME KICKOFFS
Like his scoring mark, Westwood moved into 7th place in the CFL record books, this time for all-time kickoffs.

TROY WESTWOOD - 50,000 CAREER KICKOFF YARDS
Enough milestones for Westwood? Not yet, as the affable placekicker reached another meaningful plateau. Westwood surpassed 50,000 career kickoff yards for his career after totaling 501 yards against Ottawa. The 1991 draft choice presently stands in 7th spot on the CFL's all-time kickoff yards list.

TROY WESTWOOD - 2ND-LONGEST WBB CONSECUTIVE GAMES STREAK
Westwood took sole possession of the 2nd-longest consecutive games played streak in the history of Winnipeg Blue Bombers Football by playing in his 192nd-straight game. The longest streak - 353 straight games - is held by the ageless and time-honored punter Bob Cameron.

TROY WESTWOOD - 14TH-LONGEST CFL CONSECUTIVE GAMES STREAK
Westwood also gained sole possession of the 14th-longest consecutive games played streak in the CFL.
