Week At A Glance: Mayhem Take On Pensacola And Knoxville

MACON, GA- The Macon Mayhem took four of the six possible points at home this past weekend, and they will now look ahead to two games this weekend - one at home Friday night against the Pensacola Ice Flyers and the other on the road against the Knoxville Ice Bears on Saturday night.

WEEKEND RECAP

The Mayhem went 2-1 in three games this weekend, taking the first game 4-2 against the Mississippi RiverKings and splitting the other two games against the Fayetteville FireAntz.

After a 3-1 loss on Saturday to Fayetteville, the Mayhem bounced back with their best offensive effort of the season - defeating the FireAntz 6-2. The game marked the most goals scored on the season for the Mayhem and the first time they have reached the six-goal plateau since February 9 of last season.

The team had several standout players this weekend, including Mark Rivera who had five points - all assists - on the weekend. Matt Summers scored three goals and recorded one assist, while Jeff Sanders recorded four assists in Sunday's game. Collin MacDonald, Daniel Gentzler, and Dennis Sicard all recorded three points.

PENSACOLA ICE FLYERS PREVIEW

The Pensacola Ice Flyers travel to Macon on Friday night. This weekend's game will be the sixth of eight meetings between the two teams this season, as the Mayhem are 4-0-1 against Pensacola to this point.

The Ice Flyers are now 18-15-6 (42 points) on the season and in seventh place. They have won six games in a row - going 3-0-0 each of the past two weekends. Last week, the team replace head coach Kevin Hasselberg with Rod Aldoff, who coached Pensacola the last three years before leaving to become the Head Coach of the Norfolk Admirals of the ECHL. Under Aldoff, Pensacola won two President's Cups in three years, and they are now 3-0-0 under their new head coach this season.

Riley Spraggs leads the Ice Flyers in points with 35, which is good for fourth in the SPHL in points. He is also fourth in the league in goals with 19.

Matt Zenzola is the main goaltender for the team, as he is 13-7-5 this season with a 2.42 goals against average (GAA) and a .915 save percentage (SV%).

KNOXVILLE ICE BEARS PREVIEW

The Mayhem will travel to Knoxville on Saturday to take on the Ice Bears for the fourth time this season; Macon is 2-1-0 against Knoxville this year.

The Ice Bears went 2-1-0 this weekend against the Peoria Rivermen, and they are now 21-14-4 (46 points) and tied for fifth.

Berkley Scott leads Knoxville in points with 35, which is tied for fourth most in the SPHL. Danny Cesarz trails Scott with 28 points including 26 assists.

Neither goaltender - Brian Billett and Dylan Wells - have GAA below 2.80 or SV% over .914. Billett leads the team in wins with 12.
