WEEK AT A GLANCE: Mayhem at Home for Military Appreciation Weekend
MACON, GA- After going 3-1-0 in four road games this past weekend, the Macon Mayhem returns home to the Macon Coliseum for Military Appreciation Weekend.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Last week, the Mayhem played four road games in six days - going 3-1-0 against the Mississippi RiverKings, Knoxville Ice Bears, and Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs. The lone loss came on Saturday night in Roanoke, as the Mayhem were shutout in the 3-0 loss.
With wins over Mississippi and Knoxville, Macon is now 2-1-0 against both of those teams this season, and the Mayhem picked up their first win over Roanoke on Sunday - moving to 1-1-1 against the Rail Yard Dawgs on the season.
Jordan Ruby started in all three wins, while Troy Passingham was in net for the loss. Ruby is now 13-3-3 on the season with a 2.23 goals against average (GAA) and a .928 save percentage (SV%).
Jake Trask led the offense, scoring three goals - including two game-winning-goals - and tallying two assists in the four games this past week. Trask's four-point game on Sunday matches a team-high for this season. Stephen Pierog and Collin MacDonald each chipped in with four points, as well.
MILITARY APPRECIATION WEEKEND
The Mayhem will be honoring the military during all three games this weekend. The team will be wearing special military jerseys on Friday and Saturday night, with a jersey auction immediately following the game on Saturday. Also on Saturday night, the team will be offering $10 tickets with a valid Military ID (one ticket per ID). Before the game on Saturday, fans can compete on the pull-up bar and get a close up look at Army vehicles outside of the arena. Following the game on Sunday afternoon, there will be a post-game skate with the Mayhem. Family Four-Packs will be offered at all three games this weekend.
MISSISSIPPI RIVERKINGS PREVIEW
The Mayhem's first opponent of the weekend will be the third-place Mississippi RiverKings. The team from Southaven, MS is 22-15-2 (46 points) on the season and in third place.
With the win over Mississippi last Tuesday, Macon moved to 2-1-0 over the RiverKings on the season. Two of the three games have been played in Mississippi - both 4-3 Mayhem victories, while one has been played in Macon - a 5-2 Mississippi win.
The RiverKings lost their last time out to the Huntsville Havoc by score of 4-2. They are currently lead in points by Ryan Marcuz, who has 31 points and is on a six-game point streak in which he has 11 points. Mike Moran and Dillan Fox are right behind Marcuz with 30 points and 29 points respectively. Cullen Bradshaw, who is tied for the team lead in points, was loaned to the Adirondack Thunder of the ECHL on February 10.
With goaltender Peter Di Salvo back from loan to the ECHL, the RiverKings have a good goaltender tandem. Di Salvo has played 12 games this season, going 8-4-0 with a 2.93 GAA and a .901 SV%. Brad Barone has been the main goaltender for most of the season, as he has played 26 games. He is tied for fourth in wins with 13, as he is 13-9-2 with a 2.65 GAA and a .913 SV%.
FAYETTEVILLE FIREANTZ PREVIEW
The FireAntz have been the hottest team in the SPHL as of late, as they had an eight-game win streak going until a 1-0 loss to the Columbus Cottonmouths on Sunday. Fayetteville is now in fourth place in the SPHL standings, just one point behind Mississippi - who has played four more games. This weekend will be the sixth and seventh of eight meetings between the two teams, and in the first five matchups, Macon is 3-1-1.
One of the main reasons for the Fayetteville's surge has been goaltender Sean Bonar. He has started each of the FireAntz last 21 games, going 16-5-0 with a 1.81 GAA and a .936 SV%.
The offense has also been on fire lately, as prior to their 1-0 loss on Sunday, the FireAntz averaged 4.5 goals per game on their eight-game win streak. Forward Tayler Thompson now leads the team with 37 points, and he has 14 points in the last seven games. Jake Hauswirth is right on his tail with 34 points, including a league-leading 21 goals. Defenseman Sean Robertson had his 10-game point streak snapped on Sunday, as he now has 23 points - all assists - on the season. Chris Porter has also been playing great hockey, as he has nine points in his last eight games. On the FireAntz eight-game win streak, captain Bobby Chaumont tallied seven goals and 13 assists.
