March 7, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Albany Devils News Release
ST. JOHN's, NF -- Scott Wedgewood and Scott Clemmensen combined for a shutout effort in the Albany Devils 2-0 victory against the St. John's IceCaps Saturday at Mile One Centre. The Devils leave Newfoundland with three-of-four points, improving to 26-23-5-5. St. John's goes to 28-25-6-2.
Wedgewood stopped all 11 shots he faced before leaving the game with an upper-body injury at 11:52 of the second period. Clemmensen made 17 saves, including 13 in the third period.
Offensively, Reid Boucher led the team with a goal and an assist. Stefan Matteau also found the back of the net.
For St. John's netminder Connor Hellebuyck made 30 stops on 32 saves.
Shutout For The Scotts
Wedgewood was cruising along until the midway point of the second period. After a net-mouth scramble in the Devils end, Wedgewood returned to his feet favoring his left side. He remained in the game for the next sequence, but eventually Clemmensen was called to duty.
The shutout was Albany's third of the season and first since a 4-0 victory at the Portland Pirates on Nov. 14. Clemmensen made 31 saves during that game.
Forced Turnovers
Both of the Devils goals came off turnovers near the St. John's blueline. In the first period, Matteau intercepted a pass as the puck entered the neutral zone. He tipped the puck to Boucher, who gave it back to Matteau down the left side. The 21-year-old snapped a wrister from the face-off dot past Hellebuyck at 17:20.
In the second, Graham Black stepped up near the blue line and an IceCap lost control of the puck, allowing Boucher to race in all alone. He sold a fake and beat Hellebuyck on the ice at 12:47.
Matteau extended his point streak to six games, producing four goals and two assists during that span. Boucher's multi-point performance was his sixth of the season.
