Providence, R.I. - The Springfield Falcons were downed by the Providence Bruins, 4-1, tonight at the Dunkin' Donuts Center.

The loss moves the Falcons to 32-21-6-0 on the season and 5-4-0-0 in the 10-game season series. Springfield maintains their position as second in the Northeast Division with 70 points.

Falcons goaltender Scott Munroe stopped 33 of 37 shots, while Bruins goaltender Malcolm Subban turned aside 42 of 43. Springfield was unable to convert on seven power play opportunities. The penalty kill unit shut down two of four Providence man-advantages.

The Bruins were first on the board, striking on the power play at the 8:39 mark of the opening frame. Joe Morrow ripped a shot through traffic from the left point for his third goal of the season. Steve Eminger and Zack Phillips picked up points for the assists.

Former Falcon Andrew Cherniwchan doubled the Bruins' score with a shorthanded tally just 3:43 into the second period. Cherniwchan received the puck from Justin Florek and beat the Falcons defenders. He faked right and got past Munroe with a quick backhander. Zach Trotman earned credit for the secondary assist.

The Falcons cut the lead in half with 4:15 remaining in the second. T.J. Tynan put a shot on goal that was stopped by Subban. However, the goaltender was unable to make it over to the other post and Michael Chaput went back door on the rebound for his ninth of the season. Captain Ryan Craig grabbed a point for the secondary helper.

The Bruins lit the lamp twice in the third period to defeat the Falcons, 4-1. While on the man-advantage, Tommy Cross found the back of the net from the slot off assists from Ethan Werek and Zach Trotman at the 3:28 mark.

Rob Flick notched his 12th of the season with 3:58 remaining in the contest. Cherniwchan fired a shot that was turned aside. Flick was able to clean up the rebound with Munroe out of position. Morrow earned a multi-point game with the secondary assist.

The Falcons return to the MassMutual Center to host the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 3 p.m.
