Columbus Blue Jackets Assign Center Brian Gibbons to Springfield

Springfield, Mass. - The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned center Brian Gibbons to the Springfield Falcons, Blue Jackets General Manager Jarmo Kekalainen announced today.

Gibbons, 27, has recorded five assists with eight penalty minutes and a +2 plus/minus rating in 24 games this season with the Blue Jackets. The Braintree, Massachusetts native has added 3-6-9 and six penalty minutes in 10 contests with Springfield. Signed by Columbus as a free agent in July 2014, he has posted 5-17-22 with 14 penalty minutes and a +6 plus/minus rating in 65 career NHL games with the Blue Jackets and Pittsburgh Penguins.

Originally signed as a free agent by Pittsburgh on Apr. 4, 2011, Gibbons has tallied 33-66-99 with 109 penalty minutes and a +4 plus/minus rating in 178 career AHL games with Springfield and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. He also played four seasons at Boston College from 2007-11, winning NCAA championships in 2008 and 2010 and recording 56-108-164, 241 penalty minutes and a +82 plus/minus rating in 160 career games.
