Webb Walk-Off Homer Gives Keys Series Win

April 12, 2015 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, Md. -Brenden Webb gave the Frederick Keys their first walk-off win of the season, with a two-run homer off Brad Goldberg in the 11th inning to defeat Winston-Salem 5-3 on Sunday afternoon at Nymeo Field. With Frederick limited to just one hit with a runner in scoring position all game, Webb clubbed the first pitch he saw off the left-center field billboards. On the mound, the trio of Nik Nowottnick, Dylan Rheault and Jimmy Yacabonis combined for 5.2 innings of three-hit shutout relief.

Facing Goldberg (0-1) in the ninth inning, Drew Dosch grounded out to second, while Trey Mancini just missed his third home run of the season on a flyout to the warning track in left-center. That brought up Austin Wynns, who earned a walk after a nine-pitch plate appearance, the longest of the day by a Keys player. One batter later, Webb exited the ballpark for the first time this season. It was Frederick's first walk-off win since last June 13 against Myrtle Beach.

Trailing 3-2 in the eighth inning, the Keys tied things against Dash right-hander Zach Isler. Anthony Caronia opened the inning with a single to right and moved up to second on a sac-bunt by Gregory Lorenzo. Jeff Kemp advanced Caronia an additional 90 feet on a fielder's choice, to bring up Dosch. Hitless on the game until that point, and in an 0-2 hole, the Keys three-hole batter doubled down the third base line to score the run. It was Dosch's first extra-base hit at Advanced-A.

On the mound, Rheault and Yacabonis (1-0) held the Dash in check until Webb's 11th inning walk-off. The duo retired nine of the ten batters they faced, while Rheault set down nine in order after relieving Nowottnick in the eighth. At one point, Nowottnick, Rheault and Yacabonis combined to retire 13 consecutive batters, while the Dash finished the day just 1-for-9 with runners at second or third.

Jarett Miller pitched well in his season-debut with the Keys, giving up three runs in 5.1 innings on six hits. He walked two and struck out three. After Jeff Kemp gave Frederick its first lead with a solo home run in the first, the Dash scored the next three. Winston-Salem evened the count after a stolen base by Keenyn Walker and an error by Chance Sisco, who exited the game after his hand clipped the bat of Adam Engel. The visitors then got a solo home run by Keon Barnum in the fourth and an RBI single by Cleuluis Rondon in the sixth.

Making his first appearance with the Keys on an MLB rehab assignment, David Lough added a sacrifice fly in the sixth inning, going 0-for-2 at the plate. He played six innings and served as the Keys leadoff batter and leftfielder.

Frederick begin a three-game series with Lynchburg on Monday night starting at 7:00 p.m. RHP Sebastian Vader (0-0, --) makes the start for the Keys and will be opposed by Hillcats lefty Luis Lugo (0-0, --). Sunday's broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source and frederickkeys.com beginning at 6:45 p.m. For tickets to the Keys first homestand, fans can contact the box office at 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
